Protection against coronavirus: Continental to sell partition panels for cars

Technology company Continental is helping to improve the drivers and passenger's safety when traveling. As deep concern about COVID-19 continues, many people are looking for additional protection and safety in their cars.
"We wanted to develop a product that provides an added level of safety in the fight against coronavirus, while not detracting from the driving experience," says John Duncan, who is responsible for surface materials for the automotive OEM market at Continental. By combining experience in the automotive sector and the company's plastics expertise, the idea arose to develop a partition panel made of plastic film for passenger car interiors that protects drivers and passengers against COVID-19 during transport.
The film acts as a barrier to viruses, You may need: Car Battery Tester. minimizing the spread of airborne particles in the vehicle interior, without compromising communications between the driver and passengers or affecting the temperature regulated by heating and air conditioning. The crystal-clear, shatterproof partition panel provides a high degree of protection against infections when traveling by car without sacrificing comfort, especially for commercial passenger transport in taxis, for private providers like Uber and Lyft, and other carpooling options.
Easy to use on all vehicle models
The partition panel can be installed between the driver's seat and the rear seat in a few simple steps: adjustable fastening belts mean it can be used on practically any vehicle model – from SUVs to sedans to compact cars. The material used in the protective film, which is well known to end customers and vehicle manufacturers, is a polished vinyl proven to be resistant, weatherproof and easy to maintain when used as a window for convertibles and in various marine applications.
"In order to make the product directly available to end customers without coronavirus-related logistical restrictions, we are excited to market it via Amazon in the U.S.A.," explains Duncan. The partition panel became available on the U.S. market this summer, following an accelerated planning and development period of just eight weeks. "During this time of Coronavirus, we really wanted to offer quick, direct assistance. We are delighted that we have found a suitable and practical solution for people's everyday lives," Duncan said.

Its newly developed partition panel uses plastic film to create a protective barrier between the front and rear seats to reduce the spread of coronaviruses via airborne particles in passenger cars, providing greater safety for drivers and passengers. End customers will receive the partition panels directly via Amazon.

Dee Kosh updates Instagram to say he’s “Not dead Not gone”

Singapore - Popular YouTuber and former Power 98 FM radio host Dee Kosh took to Instagram on Thursday (Sept 24) to post an update amid the sexual harassment allegations against him.
In a Instagram Story which disappears after 24 hours, Dee Kosh or Darryl Ian Koshy, wrote: "Not dead Not gone. Just waiting for the police investigations."
In August, several individuals spoke out alleging that the 32-year-old asked for sexual favours from boys as young as half his age and tried to sexually groom teenage boys under the guise of wanting to work with them.
One post that went viral online recounted how a 17-year-old boy, who was flattered that Dee was messaging him, was coerced into sending selfies daily before being asked to send photos of his body. The netizen added that many of the alleged victims were afraid to speak up because he had allegedly bullied them into remaining silent.
Dee Kosh also allegedly offered S$1,000 to a minor, inviting him over to do something presumably sexual before telling the 15-year-old that he could get back home by 1 am. Dee Kosh allegedly asked said minor to join a secret chat so his messages could not be screen-captured.
The former radio DJ's last Instagram post was on Monday (Aug 17), when he admitted to texting a 15-year-old boy with what he called a "questionable tone" and apologised "to all the people who have suffered from this".
In the statement on Aug 17, Dee Kosh said about the messages: "My tone was questionable, but there was absolutely no intent to groom him.
"Let me state categorically that I did not ever have any sexual relations with him or with any minor.
"To me, it was a friendly conversation which was cheeky and inappropriate, but I did not take it any further. In hindsight, I see what was wrong and I take full responsibility for my actions, and I am sorry."
When the incident first broke in mid-August, Dee Kosh had sent a lawyer's letter to his main accuser, an Instagram user with the handle @_epaul, on the grounds of harassment and defamation.
However, a day later, the law firm announced that it was no longer acting for the YouTuber.
Following the saga, Night Owl Cinematics dropped Dee Kosh as its host and Power 98 announced that the DJ had gone "on leave". /TISG

Audi S8 Battles Bentley Flying Spur In A Posh Drag Race

The Audi S8 and the Bentley Flying Spur share the same Volkswagen parent, but that's just about the only thing that these two cars share. While one's assembled in Germany, the other is made in the United Kingdom. Both are luxurious but one's posher and asks for more money.
But which one's quicker in a straight-line race? While both cars aren't really designed to be driven like they're stolen, they actually pack quite a punch underneath their long hoods. Carwow pits both in a drag race to see which one's the quickest to the valet.
But before you watch the video, let's compare the numbers here first, just so we'd know how different are these cars from each other.
The Audi S8 is powered by a 4.0-liter biturbo V8 that's assisted by a 48-volt MHEV system. With this powertrain setup, You may need: diagnostic scanner. the S8 can produce up to 563 horsepower (420 kilowatts) and 590 pound-feet (800 Newton-meters) of torque. These figures are sent to all four wheels via an eight-speed torque converter gearbox. And of course, with its size, the S8 tips the scales at 4,916 pounds (2,230 kilograms).
Despite the hefty numbers from the S8, the Flying Spur is no pushover with its 6.0-liter W12 mill. The current Bentley flagship can make up to 626 hp (467 kW) and 664 lb-ft (900 Nm) of twists, also sent to all four corners via an eight-speed automatic gearbox but this time with dual clutches. The Flying Spur has the power advantage but it has a weakness – it's 456 pounds (207 kg) heavier than its Audi platform twin.
Can the Flying Spur's power advantage offset its weight? Watch the video on top of this page to find out and let us know what you think in the comments section below.

Crows Think and Solve Problems - Just Like Humans | IE

A murder of crows - the collective noun for a group of crows - sounds ominous enough.
It sounds even more ominous when you add the fact that these birds, along with other corvids (ravens, rooks, and jackdaws) can think similarly to humans and some primates.
A recent study carried out by researchers from the University of Tübingen in Germany showed how these birds can take on different memory tasks and solve problems.
The study was published in the journal Science on Friday.
Being called a 'bird brain' takes on a whole new meaning now. Going from what was an insult should be turned into a compliment, if 'bird' is in reference to a crow, or raven, that is.
What the recent study demonstrates is that certain bird brains have as many or more neurons as some highly-evolved primates. It turns out that crows and other corvids know what they already know or don't know, and can solve problems.
Dr. Andreas Nieder, Professor of Animal Physiology and Director of the Institute of Neurobiology at the University of Tübingen and one of the authors of the study, AD: Autel TPMS sensor. took on the research in the hope of understanding more universal models of neural basis behavioral functions. This will help in general for the research of memory, strategic planning, and abstraction, among others.
SEE ALSO: MASSIVE SOARING CONDORS ONLY FLAT THEIR WINGS 1% OF THEIR FLIGHT TIME
In order to reach its conclusion, the team carried out tests on crows. They trained two crows, Ozzy and Glen, to peck a red or a blue dot, depending on whether they saw a light or not. Red meant "saw it," and blue "saw it - but only after the flash of light."
As the crows were responding to their task, Nieder and his team were tracking the birds' brains' neurons. Different sensory neurons activated for the different answers. And what the team discovered was that Ozzy and Glen's brain neurons were flashing up and down depending on which color they pecked.
Both birds correctly selected the colors, which matched up to their brain sensory neurons' responses.
Nieder told STAT news "I think it demonstrates convincingly that crows and probably other advanced birds have sensory awareness, in the sense that they have specific subjective experiences that they can communicate."
"Besides crows, this kind of neurobiological evidence for sensory consciousness only exists in humans and macaque monkeys," he continued.
It's a big week for the animal kingdom, indeed.

Listen: How Bad Will Winter Get?

Experts have long feared that the virus will peak again in winter. The days are now getting shorter, life is moving indoors, and the pandemic isn't contained. How bad could the next few months get?
Katherine Wells wants to know what to expect and how to prepare. She was joined at a live Atlantic Festival taping of Social Distance by her co-host, staff writer James Hamblin, and Alexis Madrigal, staff writer and co-founder of the COVID Tracking Project at The Atlantic.
Listen to the episode here:
Subscribe to Social Distance on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or another podcast platform to receive new episodes as soon as they're published.
What follows is a portion of their conversation, edited for length and clarity:
Katherine Wells: We've reached a pretty grim milestone. Two hundred thousand deaths, AD: Topdon Car Battery Tester. and we're heading into winter. I've been worried about winter since the beginning. We're so dependent on being outside right now. A couple of months ago, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention director, Robert Redfield, said the winter is "going to be probably one of the most difficult times that we've experienced in American public health." That's terrifying.
James Hamblin: Yeah, it seems like the writing is on the walls. As you go through New York, the solution to so much life has been: Just do it outside. Open windows. Push people into empty parking spaces that are makeshift restaurants. And now, fall is starting to be in the air. Restaurants are starting to allow for 25 percent [indoor] capacity. Schools are reopening. Kids-not all kids, but some kids -are meeting in class. It's this sort of perfect storm that makes a lot of people worry about resurgence.
Wells: There's so much regional variation and there's so much uncertainty. Alexis, you've been following the numbers the whole time. What do you think the winter is going to look like?
Alexis Madrigal: I think the base case here, the default scenario, is that things get a lot worse. There is an alternative scenario, though. If we really look at what happened during the Sun Belt surge, we were actually better able to contain it than I thought as we were going through it at the time. A lot of overlapping half steps and a lot of imperfect but smart things came together to bring transmission rates down and eventually contain those outbreaks in Arizona and Texas and Florida without very extreme measures. We didn't actually get rid of the virus. But we stopped runaway growth.
I think the big question for me this winter is whether that same thing will happen. We know cases are going to grow. If we're sitting on this plateau of 40,000 cases a day, the virus is pretty much everywhere. So if you've got community transmission everywhere, and you then increase the mobility and interaction that people have, you're going to see more cases. It's just happened time and time again.
There is a scenario in this pandemic, though, where masking helps not only with COVID-19, but also with the flu, where testing begins to catch more contagious people, where a vaccine rolls out among crucial populations. And maybe you don't see the darkest winter in public health. When I really look at the scenarios, you see this tremendous divergence. Maybe it's only 500 people dying a day at the end of December. Or maybe it's 1,500. That's a huge difference. You're talking 80,000 people in the hospital at any given time versus 20,000 people in the hospital. These are hugely different on-the-ground realities, and it's very hard to know precisely how to weight them. Though, like I said, I think the base case here is that things don't go well.
Wells: There's no scenario where we get this under control soon. This is definitely with us through the winter in a devastating way. Is that your sense?
Madrigal: That would be my sense, yeah.
Hamblin: If Alexis said anything other than that, I would jump in and correct him. The talk of a vaccine existing has been conflated with the idea of a vaccine being widely distributed. We need to plan for a winter where a vaccine is not part of our lives. [Anthony] Fauci said that he would be happy if the vaccine were 50 percent effective. Ideall...

Why the New Nissan Z Proto Might Be the Old 370Z Underneath—And Why That's Not so Bad

Take one look at the Nissan Z Proto and you can quickly tell it was designed to pay tribute to the Z's that came before it. Sure, everybody loves a bit of nostalgic styling, but what about nostalgic engineering? As it turns out, the new Z might feature more than a bit of that. With no specific details on the Z Proto's platform released, we're left to speculate on a fairly convincing body of evidence assembled by Motor Trend highlighting more than a few similarities with the now 12-year-old Nissan 370Z.
The long and the short of Motor Trend's theory is that the Nissan Z Proto looks a helluva lot like a rebodied 370Z. The proportions of the chassis, the way body panels are arranged, and even interior layouts are all eerily similar. If you ask me, the most damning piece of the puzzle are the Z Proto's interior door handles and surrounding air vents that look almost completely unchanged from the elder car.
To be fair though, it's not like we weren't warned that this might happen. Way back when all we knew about the car were the stuff of rumors, Autel mk908p
. one particular report mentioned that the next-gen Z would sit on a "heavily updated" version of the 370Z's FM platform that also forms the basis of the Infiniti Q60.
The Z Proto being a heavily-reworked 370Z also shouldn't come as a shock since automakers actually do this all the time, especially with lower-volume models. Take the recently unveiled 2021 Lexus IS for example. As much as I personally enjoy the look of that car, sedan sales just aren't what they used to be, even for Lexus, so the "new" IS gets design updates, better infotainment tech, and an upgraded suspension. It's not an entirely new car. But it still exists, and for that I'm thankful.
Dodge has also been doing this for years, continually offering wider and more powerful variants of the Challenger and Charger, whose basic platform has literally been around since before that first "once-in-a-generation" financial crisis. There's even been some evidence suggesting Toyota and Subaru's upcoming "second-gen" 86/BRZ twins will not actually be "all-new."
If the new Z ends up being a heavy update of the old car, it shouldn't be too surprising why. Nissan is in fairly dire straits at the moment, expecting a loss of $6 billion by next year and profit struggles even before the pandemic. And like all car companies, it needs to invest very heavily into electrification to meet coming emissions requirements. Even upscale cousin Infiniti is looking ing "Nissan-plus" rather than a true competitor to Mercedes or Audi.
Basically, dumping a ton of money into a low volume, niche sports car probably wouldn't get very far with Nissan's management these days. It's the same reason the new Toyota Supra had to be a joint venture with BMW. While Nissan needs some positive attention amid its money troubles and the whole Carlos Ghosn mess, and enthusiasts everywhere are happy to get a new sports car, it makes more sense for the company to heavily update the platform it has rather throw billions into a new design.
All that being said, is it really that big of a deal if the "new" Z isn't as new as people think? I'm not so sure. Yes, paying new-car money for what is, underneath, an "old" car might feel like a bad deal but, if you think about it, what's so wrong about an old car? It'll have old-car handling, old-car steering, and an old-car layout. Isn't that all we enthusiasts want from life? You'd think so from all the takes on forums and Twitter-until we're actually presented with one.
In any case, when we asked Nissan whether the Z Proto is indeed built on 370Z architecture, a company spokesperson predictably declined to comment saying, "Unfortunately, we can't share details beyond the information from the reveal at this time."

Sophia Loren style file: How the unconventional beauty became one of Hollywood’s most famous faces

Sophia Loren is easily one of Old Hollywood's most glamorous and recognizable actresses. Born in Rome, Loren overcame an impoverished childhood before establishing herself in Italian cinema, and later, conquering Hollywood. Her career has spanned six decades, earning her an Oscar along the way and roles with Hollywood heavyweights like Cary Grant, You may need: car diagnostic. Marlon Brando and Gregory Peck.
In her 2014 memoir, Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow: My Life, Loren wrote, "When I think back on my life, sometimes I'm surprised it's actually all true." From her days in war-torn Italy to her red carpet appearances, here is a look at Loren's most significant moments.
Despite her glamorous lifestyle later in life, Sophia Loren's childhood, by her own accounts, was an "uphill struggle."
Loren was born Sofia Villani Scicolone on September 20, 1934, in a charity ward for unwed mothers in Rome, Italy. Without support from her father, Loren and her younger sister grew up in extreme poverty, raised by her mother, Romilda Villani, her grandparents and extended family outside of Naples in a town called Pozzuoli.
Conditions grew worse during World War II, and Loren would recall in her autobiography that her earliest memories were of bombings and taking refuge in the nearby railway tunnel during air raids. "On some days, we wouldn't even have a crumb to eat," she wrote, noting that she was nicknamed 'Toothpick' by her classmates because of how skinny she was.
Seemingly transforming overnight, in 1949, Loren's mother entered her in a beauty pageant in Naples. Though she didn't win the title prize, as a finalist, Loren did win what would prove to be a life-changing ticket to Rome - the center of Italian cinema.
Loren set out to establish herself in Italian films when she arrived in Rome, earning her first role as an extra in the MGM-produced 1951 film Quo Vadis. By 1953, she had been taken under producer (and future husband) Carlo Ponti's wing, changing her screen name to Sophia Loren and landing her first starring role in the film Aida.
The following year, Loren worked with renowned Italian director Vittorio De Sica for the first time in the The Gold Of Naples, and the two would go on to make 13 more films together over the course of their 20 year friendship and work relationship.
"Without De Sica I would never have become what I am, I would never have found my true voice," Loren has said. De Sica would even direct Loren in his 1960 film about Italy during World War II, Two Women. Her emotional performance required Loren to draw from her own experiences during the war, and it would earn her the 1961 Academy Award for Best Lead Actress - making Loren the first actress to win the Oscar for a non-English-language film.
Having established herself in Italian cinema over the course of a few years, Loren set her sights on Hollywood. She hired a language coach to teach her English and landed an impressive first Hollywood picture, starring alongside Cary Grant and Frank Sinatra in the 1957 film The Pride And The Passion.
Upon her arrival in Hollywood in 1957, Loren would hit the ground running, making films like Houseboat, It Started In Naples and Arabesque. Throughout this time, she remained an international actress, frequently returning to Italy to make films like Two Women, Marriage Italian Style and Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow (the latter calling for Loren's character to perform a now famous striptease).
Sometimes called the Italian Marilyn Monroe, Loren's look was distinctly her own, and at first, was seen as more of a hindrance. By her own accounts, Loren's impoverished childhood left her terribly skinny, and it wasn't until her teenage years that "the ugly duckling was turning into a swan," as she put it.
Even so, at the start of her career, cameramen would declare her, "impossible to photograph," noting, "Her face is too short, her mouth is too big and her nose is too long."
When it was suggested that she would find more success after having a nose job, Loren refused, stating, "I knew perfectly well that my beauty was the result of a lot of irregularities all blended together in one face, my face. Whether I won or lost, it w...

Jeep Wrangler Pretends Its A Mountain Bike, Fails Miserably

First things first. If anyone has additional information on this lonely Jeep Wrangler perched on the edge of destruction, we are dying to know the outcome. We have some feelers out on our end and we'll update this story if we get fresh news. For now, just know that somewhere in the hills east of Los Angeles, there's a Wrangler stuck between a rock and a hard place. Or rather, on top of a rock in a very hard-to-reach place.
Sadly, You may need: Bluetooth scan tool. we don't know the backstory but then again, how much do you need to know? A series of photos were posted by Jun Castro late yesterday evening in the Hemet News public Facebook group. They clearly show the late-model Wrangler high-centered on a very narrow trail, and we can only ask the same question we suspect everyone is asking. What was this driver thinking? Actually, we know exactly the thought process here. "I've got a Wrangler, I can get to that peak ... oh crap, what was I thinking?"
Kudos to the crew at The Drive for sleuthing out the location of this four-wheel-drive faux pas. They determined with reasonable certainty this is a trail just south of Loma Linda, and actually, it's a series of trails. They aren't designed for vehicles though – these are hiking trails and judging by the way this specific trail is bermed up on either side, we suspect it's well-used by mountain bikers. Jeeps sometimes carry mountain bikes ... maybe that's what the driver was actually thinking? Right, probably not.
We're not able to embed the Facebook post, but you can see it here or at the source link below. This screenshot of the post gives you some sense of the peril, notably on the Wrangler's passenger side. It's not so much high-centered as it is hanging off the side of a very steep drop. There will be no putting this Jeep into reverse and backing slowly out, at least not without shovels, tires aired way down, and lots of people power because frankly, we're not sure what kind of support vehicles could get close enough to help.
In any case, we hope for the Wrangler's sake this saga has a happy ending.

Metro Detroit forecast: Fall kicks off with warm, dry, sunny weather

Summer ends on Tuesday, but you can't tell from the metro Detroit forecast.
On its Facebook page, the National Weather Service predicts southeast Michigan's next few days will be dry and sunny.
However, there will also be "residual wildfire smoke from western states" that will "produce more of a 'hazy sunshine' later in the day Monday and Tuesday."
The predicted forecast:
The dry, warm trend will continue for the rest of the week.
More: Eastern Michigan University to test campus wastewater for COVID-19
More: Michigan DNR: Deer numbers look good heading into hunting season
Dave Kook, a NWS meteorologist, says the forecast this week hovers around 5 degrees above the normal temperature this time of the year. The usual temperature is 72.
The warm up will last through Saturday, which will also be warm and dry, with temperatures around 80 degrees. The next cold front hits the state on Sunday, where the temperature may drop into the mid-60s. Sunday will be Michigan's first chance of precipitation in a while.
Kook says the wildfires' smoke is too high to affect air quality in Michigan, but if it is thick enough, it can make temperatures drop. The smoke has not been that thick yet.

Ford Puma 1.0 Ecoboost MHEV 2020 long-term review

Why we're running it:To find out if the class-leading crossover is as good to live with as it is to drive
Fits more than you might think - 2 September 2020
Moving out of my flat gave me cause to use the storage cubby under the Puma's boot floor. The MegaBox may have seemed a bit of a gimmick when the car was revealed, but it snugly accommodated a bedside table, leaving room above for a large chest of drawers. I couldn't squeeze in much else besides, but that additional capacity would certainly prove a real boon for family trips.
Is there a better car in which to lose yourself in rural Wales? - 19 August 2020
Apparently, You may also like: TPMS Programming Tool. you should never rely on sat-nav to guide you toAston Martin'snew St Athan factory. Of course, this useful bit of information was relayed to me only once I had reached the home ofthe DBX(in the countryside not far west of Cardiff) via a circuitous, Google-calculated route that took in all manner of ridiculously tight and twisty Welsh country lanes.
They were the sort of exceptionally narrow lanes – heightened by dense, overgrown foliage – that feature blind crests, sweeping bends and frequent rutted and broken surfaces. A fellow journalist attending the same event made the same navigational error and arrived slightly white-faced, noting that he was glad to have been driving an SUV, given the rough roads, while admitting it was a challenge to fit his large machine down those lanes. His comments perfectly encapsulated why the Ford Puma I had arrived in had been the ideal car for the journey.
Ford aims to take the crossover class by storm as it revives the Puma name
In the compact car class, the description ‘crossover' usually suggests compromise. Sure, you can have a dash of extra ride height and more head room, but it will cost you chunks of handling and composure and won't really add much in the way of actually useful space. But on my route to St Athan, the Puma showed that it truly does mix the best attributes of a hatchback with those of an SUV with minimal drawbacks. The Puma could attack the faster, wider Welsh roads with the relish that its Fiesta sibling would, with similar direct steering, incisive handling and remarkable poise.
Selecting Sport driving mode stiffened the ride a bit to offer some sporty relish and made it genuinely enjoyable to steer round flowing corners. That combined well with Ford's mild-hybrid-boosted three-cylinder turbocharged 1.0-litre petrol engine, which, when worked at speed, is pleasingly responsive.
Honestly, at times on such roads, I forgot that I was driving a machine that would be classed as a crossover, rather than a supermini. Until, that is, I got to those narrower, bumpier roads. Switch out of Sport mode and the Puma's modicum of extra ride height really helped to smooth out those lumps and bumps, maintaining a welcome poise that inspired confidence. And while this is largely psychological, the slightly higher driving position than you would find in a hatchback made me feel that I had a bit more visibility on the narrow roads – although it didn't help me to see round the blind corners exacerbated by the overgrowth...
Once out of the woods, the bulk of my journey was on faster roads, and here the Puma also proved its worth as a motorway cruiser, with a poise and stability occasionally missing in class rivals. That said, the low-40s MPG it achieved was a tad disappointing for an electrified three-pot, especially as much of the journey was spent trying Eco mode.
By way of a glowing effect, the digital speedometer does offer some advice on the optimum speed to accelerate in order to maximise fuel economy, although it's hard to really achieve in the real world without exercising undue levels of restraint.
Clearly, extracting the best MPG from the Puma will require some compromise in terms of driving. But that's a trade-off I'm happy to make, considering how few compromises it requires for you to genuinely enjoy driving it on challenging country lanes. That said, if you do ever find yourself heading to St Athan, trust me: don't rely on the sat-nav.
Digital pumaA Puma graphic that appears when the screen turns on sounds cheesy but is pl...

STB partners Visa to help Singapore SMEs impacted by COVID-19

STB and Visa will work together to derive insights on how COVID-19 has changed domestic and international consumer behaviour, and identify new trends and untapped opportunities. These insights will be shared with local SMEs to help them develop campaigns and initiatives that are in tune with the new environment.
To kickstart the data and research collaboration, STB and Visa have produced a report to provide insights for local SMEs. Titled Impact of COVID-19 on Tourism in Singapore and the Road to Recovery and Transformation, the report found that local brands are worst hit by the pandemic, experiencing double-digit negative growth.
The lack of an online presence has also left local brands more vulnerable to the economic impact of the pandemic – in particular, those located in tourism precincts.
In the next phase of their data and research collaboration, STB and Visa will focus on the impact of COVID-19 on business travel.
STB and Visa will also develop a domestic marketing campaign to raise awareness of local SMEs, while driving domestic consumption through Visa cardholder promotions. This will be done through encouraging Singaporeans to shop at local retailers and support the domestic economy.
In the coming months, STB and Visa will introduce joint promotions and offers to encourage locals to rediscover Singapore and support local SMEs.
"Through our partnership with Visa, You may need: TPMS Sensor. we aim to give local businesses a much-needed boost through domestic spending," said STB Chief Executive Keith Tan.

Governments should invest to overcome the coronavirus crisis — but don't forget climate change, says expert

SINGAPORE - Governments should continue to make investments that combat climate change, even while they focus on coping with the coronavirus pandemic, said Judith Rodin, President Emerita at the University of Pennsylvania.
"We should use all the money that's being poured into the economic recovery from Covid, which is an extraordinary crisis and an extraordinary challenge," Rodin told CNBC on the sidelines of the Singapore Summit, pointing out there's a high number of cases and deaths from the virus.
There are more than 30 million reported cases of Covid-19 around the world, and the death toll worldwide has risen to more than 944,800, according to data compiled by the Johns Hopkins University.
"We want governments to be paying attention to them, but we want them to make the investments in ways that can benefit sustainability and natural resources," she said on Friday.
Citing the World Economic Forum's Global Risks Report, Rodin said the world's financial resources are going to be enormously challenged by climate change and the depletion of resources such as water - "all of the things that really do influence our health and human safety, and I think the mantra should be that we have to save the planet to save ourselves - including from future pandemics," said Rodin.
Rodin said the issuance of social bonds could help ease pressure on governments.
"These are strategies that engage the private markets and the public markets in ways that produce financial outcomes and at the same time take some pressure off governments to create the kinds of policies and the kinds of financing that give the public markets confidence in investing in the recovery," she said.
She emphasized the need for everyone to address climate change.
"Climate change is here and it's real and we must, we absolutely must address it, not only with government action but with leadership, with demonstrating to the general public that everybody has a role in preventing further climate change and in all of the other positive actions," said Rodin.

Nissan Z Proto previews retro-inspired V6 sports car

Nissan's hotly anticipated new generation ofthe Z sports carhas been previewed withthe Z Proto– a prototype with a twin-turbo V6 and manual gearbox.
However, there's bad news for the UK and mainland Europe: the as-yet-unnamed new model won't be offered for sale here. In a statement sent to Autocar,Nissancited a "shrinking European sports car market and specific regulations on emissions" as the reasons why it was "unable to build a viable business case" for the car's European release.
The Z Proto plays on the sporting sub-brand's 50-year history, with a silhouette thmunicates respect for the original model",the 240Z . The launch car's yellow pearlescent paint is a tribute to the first-generation Z as well as theZ32-gen 300ZXof the 1990s.
Nissan also cites retro references in the bonnet profile and teardrop-shaped LED headlights – the latter meant to conjure up the Japan-only 240ZG of the 1970s. The link to the original Z is clearest in side profile, with the long bonnet and cab-back proportions. The 300ZX references reappear in the design of the tail-lights.
However, it's not all backward-looking. Details such as the rectangular front grille, 19in alloy wheels and carbonfibre side skirts aim to modernise the look.
The bootlid appears to feature a Fairlady Z badge – a name used for the original in Japan and the US. It's possible that name will be used for the production car, but Nissan claims it simply represents the prototype's name in Japan.
At 4382mm long, See: car diagnostic. 1850mm wide and 1310mm tall, the Z Proto is 142mm longer than the outgoing 370Z but no wider and slightly lower.
The blend of old and new continues inside, where Nissan claims the Z Proto "seamlessly blends modern technology with vintage Z touches". Input from racing drivers helped ensure a clear driver focus for the major controls and 12.3in digital instrument display.
The Nissan 370Z is seductively honest, entertaining and great value, too. But it's no long-haul cruiser
Body-colour accents also link to the exterior and the pod gauges on top of the dashboard (one for turbo boost pressure) and door handles are clear links tothe 370Z .
Nissan hasn't released details of the twin-turbo V6 powertrain, although Autocar understands that it's effectively a reworked version of the 3.0-litre unit used inthe flagship Infiniti Q60 coupé . There it produces 400bhp, but given the new Z car should be significantly lighter than the 1825kg Q60, it should be a fair bit faster. Expect it to have substantially more torque than the naturally aspirated V6 used in the 370Z, too.
Chief product specialist Hiroshi Tamura claims the car is about more than speed. "Z is a balance of power and agility. It's a vehicle that creates a connection with the driver not just on the physical level but also emotionally," he said.
Key to this includes the use of a six-speed manual gearbox in the prototype, bucking the wider industry trend towards automation. Even so, an auto option is likely for the US.
No date has been provided for the launch of the production Z car. However, given the prototype's seemingly finished interior design, a debut during 2021 is likely.
The Z Proto's link to the 50-year history of the Z car is obvious. "We explored two directions," said Nissan's global design head, Alfonso Albaisa. "One with a strong homage tone and one with a futuristic feeling throughout. Our designers made countless studies and sketches, researching each generation to better understand what made it such a success... Ultimately, we agreed this new Z Proto should travel between the decades, including the future."
Various references to the 240Z and 240ZG can be seen, but there are also nods to the 1990s 300ZX. Why?
"The 300ZX represented a technological breakthrough for Z and Nissan," Albaisa said. "The seamless surfaces and absence of bodylines gave it a river stone-like, smooth quality," hinted at on the new car.
I like it from some angles but definitely not the straight front. That straight square grille is quite off-putting.

It looks heavily underpinned by the 370z, not necessarily a bad thing - just hope they haven't skimped as Nissan is strapped for c...

Orcas Attacking Ships in Spain Leave Scientists Baffled | IE

Orcas usually do not meddle with human affairs. They simply leave us alone, with the occasional gamification of certain aspects of our technology such as biting on ships rudders to drag along with them for a quick laugh.
A few orcas in northern Spain, however, have decided on ramming and rocking unlucky ships and boats.

Last Friday, Halcyon Yachts' Beautiful Dreamer took some beating to its stern in the middle of its mission taking a 36-feet (11 meters) boat to the U.K., reports the Guardian. As a result of the at least 15 blows, the ship's rudder broke and it lost control of its steering and subsequently towed to the city of A Coruña in Spain.
Justin Crowther, the captain of the Beautiful Dreamer told La Voz de Galicia, "It was repeatedly smashing the rudder, im608 review
. 15 times I'm guessing. It ripped it out of our hands."
He continued, "We switched everything off, we turned the engine off, we turned all the electronics off, and it disappeared. Until we took the salvage."
Spanish government body Maritime Rescue publicized the incident on Twitter and posted a video to forewarn other seafarers to stay away from orcas.
The tweet reads: "There is a radio advisory in force. In case you see [these orcas], do not get close and maintain a wide distance."
This is not the only recent case of such an encounter. Two boats also had unfortunate encounters this last month. In one of the cases, Faro de Vigo reports that one boat tried steering away and avoiding the pod of orcas, but the rudder got some beating nonetheless.
Alfredo López, a long time researcher of the area and a biologist from the nonprofit organization, the Marine Biological Association, notes that while strange, this behavior should not be alarming, in an interview with the Faro de Vigo.
Lopez states these encounters could be two singular orcas going through a learning and experimentation phase or it could be that fishnets might have taken the life of an orca calf. There is not enough evidence to confirm either of these possibilities yet.
At any rate, experts exclaim that people need not be afraid as orcas do not just "jump on the deck to attack people" out of the blue.
Alfredo closed with the remarks suggesting people to go about their lives as per usual since "there is no evidence in the entire world of a premeditated attack on a person or injuries or anything like that."

Kia Large SUV Planned, Pickup Truck Still Happening: Report

The Australian market has been a huge player when it comes to trucks and SUVs for many manufacturers around the world. The likes of Chevrolet, Toyota, and Ford have enjoyed considerable sales success in the land down under, and now, You may need: autel code reader. Kia and its sister company Hyundai have been eyeing the opportunity to expand their lineup in order to take the fight directly to these established brands. The announcement that Kia had been working on some sort of mid-size truck platform was about a year ago, and now, as confirmed by the Australian website motoring, the plan is still underway, with a large SUV similar to the Toyota Prado or Nissan Patrol also imminent.

With the Kia Telluride, Hyundai Palisade, and even the latest Kia Sorento solidifying both brand's position in the SUV segments, none of these vehicles have the towing capacity or off-road prowess similar to that of a Ford Ranger or Toyota Land Cruiser. These are large crossovers with pseudo-off-road intentions, after all, and are all based on a car-like monocoque platform. According to executives from Kia and Hyundai, the plan is still definitely underway, but the COVID-19 situation has certainly shuffled around schedules, and just because there's no news about it doesn't mean its dead.
Both brands certainly have the potential engines to cater to this segment, with hybrid, plug-in hybrid, twin-turbo V6s, and V8s. Most especially the 3.0-liter six-cylinder turbodiesel eveloped for the Genesis GV80 SUV, which offers a considerable 274 horsepower and 434 pound-feet of torque; enough to challenge the four-cylinder turbodiesels of the Japanese contenders. This means that this will most likely be the engine of choice for the Kia/Hyundai pickup duo with SUV counterpart.
"If you did want to penetrate that particular segment, you'd have to have an offering closer to a ladder frame vehicle. Or if not, if it was alongside a large SUV, in that it was say built off a ute platform, they could achieve a similar result," says Kia Australia's product planning chief Roland Rivero.
Additionally, this Korean ute effort could see the brand's return to the commercial vehicle sector using the same platform. Together with Hyundai, Kia co-invested around $160 million into EV van-maker Arrival earlier this year and could leverage that partnership for new vehicles. "We wouldn't close the door on it. As you know we have a partnership with Arrival. If we had to choose an LCV, the number one priority – as it would be for anyone else in Australia – would be leaning towards a ute – a dual-cab ute of some sort," Rivero concluded.
