Samsung’s Galaxy Buds Plus are just $100 for one day only at Woot

At Woot, Amazon Prime members can pick up a set of Samsung's very good Galaxy Buds Plus wireless earbuds for $100. We've seen this $50 off discount only once before, back in July, but it's back again to match the lowest price yet. If you don't have Prime, your checkout price will be $105, so it's not too harsh of a penalty. This sale is happening for one day only, See: Car Battery Tester. so don't expect it to be available if you're checking this out on Sunday or beyond.
The Galaxy Buds Plus are worth checking out if you value long-lasting battery life, superb sound quality, and solid microphones for placing calls.
Beats Solo 3 wireless on-ear headphones are down to just $103 at Daily Steals when you use the code VERGESOLO in at checkout. These usually cost somewhere between $150 and $200, depending on the color you want, and Daily Steals' selection truly stands out beyond the standard colorways. It has the Club Collection colors of Beats' Solo 3 lineup, containing "club red," which mixes red and navy blue; "club yellow," which mixes yellow with sky blue; and a few others.
These are new units with a full one-year manufacturer warranty, but they don't have the shrink-wrap that's applied in the factory.
If you've been on the lookout for a nice deal on the Apple AirPods Pro, you'll want to check in on Sunday as early as you can: 3AM ET is when Staples will knock $50 off, making them $200. This matches the best price that Staples set early last month. Deals this good on the AirPods Pro are rare at this point, and while the sale technically lasts from Sunday, September 13th, through the 19th, stock will likely sell out before then.
Several Nintendo Switch games that I'd recommend to just about anyone are up to $20 off at Walmart. Even a few games that rarely drop below their usual $60 price are seeing $10 discounts. These deals are available online and in store, and they're for the physical cartridges, not the digital versions. Here's a full list:

Modding a Nissan Frontier With Duct Tape and Gold Spray Paint Is a Really Good Idea, Turns Out Great

When I bought my Toyota MR2 Turbo several years back, one of the first things I did was replace its ratty, cracked front lip. But before its replacement went on, I slathered it in stickers, which I sealed against the elements with the most effective of clearcoat substitutes: packing tape. Naturally, AD: TPMS Sensor. the following winter stripped every inch of that tape, teaching me a lesson about half-assing car mods. And sometime soon, the owner of a duct tape-wrapped disaster of a Nissan Frontier will learn that same lesson.
Photos of said truck spread across social media on Wednesday, seemingly stemming from a Facebook post by one Adan Rmz Chevroletero. The truck's apparent owner bears little resemblance to the poster, who seems to poke fun at the truck's owner with a sarcastic quip.
"If you don't know about kustom don't talk!!" he says, per an automatic translation. "And if you don't have one you'll never understand!!!!"
Si no sabes del kustom no hables!!
Y si no tienes una nunca lo vas a entender!!!!
Indeed, it's tough to understand what was going through this Frontier owner's head when they covered its grille in duct tape, suffocating its cooling system. If that doesn't present a cooling problem this September, it surely will in the heat of summer in New Mexico, where the truck is registered. If anything, though, the truck's owner didn't use quite enough tape to mask off the bodywork when they coated it with gold spray paint. There's visible overspray on the headlights, back of the cab and driver-side rear taillight-the other is partially taped over, hiding un-repaired collision damage.
While far from the classy car its owner presumably hoped to create, this Nissan will quickly teach him several things. The importance of a well-engineered (and well-built) built cooling system, the fallibility of adhesive and just how many people whip out their smartphones when they see something absurd to share with Twitter. But rather than point, laugh and judge like the rest of the peanut gallery, I'd like to encourage Señor Cinta Adhesiva here to give his vision of an ideal Nissan Frontier another shot after the duct tape falls off. Body filler, sanding and paint prep are the way forward for you, fella, and there are plenty of people online that'd be glad to help you master them.

Nationwide aluminum can shortage has Michigan breweries scrambling

The sound of popping open a fresh, cold can of beer may become more and more rare for some Michigan breweries.
The U.S. is experiencing an aluminum can shortage and it's only a matter of time before microbreweries begin to feel the effects.
Much of the shortage has to do with the popularity of beer cans over the past few years. According to USA TODAY, it's about the ability to produce enough cans to satisfy demand. When the COVID-19 pandemic began and dine-in services shut down, the option to drink beer inside a brewery was no longer available. That means brewery customers were taking their beer to go - in cans.
"Most Michigan breweries only do cans, You may need: Topdon Car Battery Tester. " said Bobby Vedder, certified Cicerone with Powers Distributing. "What happened during the lockdown is that everyone was drinking at home. The bars and restaurants were closed, so there's no keg beer being sold and everybody went into full production on packaged beer."
With the demand for beer cans spiking, there was another factor contributing to the shortage: Beer drinkers were unable to return their empty cans, with the pandemic also shutting down bottle and can return services.
"Now, there's none of this stuff getting smelted back down and recycled back in because everyone's cans are in the garage," said Vedder.
Bottle and can returns resumed in Michigan on June 15, with a limit on how many could be returned each day. But Michigan breweries are still preparing alternatives for the shortage.
More: Here are 8 Michigan beers you must try this fall
More: Halloween 2020 isn't canceled due to coronavirus, but it could look quite different
"If you can't get that aluminum back, then there's no way to make more cans," Vedder said.
Vedder said the alternative would be to switch to selling beer in bottles, but it could be difficult when a brewery's branding is based on cans.
Just a week ago, Grand Haven-based Odd Side Ales received an email from their aluminum can supplier, stating that the brewery won't be able to receive cans for the rest of the year. The brewery had to scramble.
"It sounded like it was a huge chain reaction to everything," said Wes O'Leary, head of sales at Odd Side Ales. "A culmination of the pandemic sending everybody to the stores rather than the bars and that increased load where everybody shifted to packaged. We shifted about 20% of our volume to packaged."
Odd Side Ales' last can shipment will come next week. It found a way to purchase aluminum cans from other breweries that have a large stock. The brewery is also purchasing glass bottles and heat-wrapped sleeve cans.
"Pretty much, it's however we can get it done to finish out the year because we are having our best year yet," O'Leary said. "We're making it work and we now have secured enough cans to get us through the year. But past that, Ball (Beverage Packaging) cannot give us an answer about when we can start ordering again. And it's a little scary."
Luckily, 734 Brewing Company in Ypsilanti purchased a bulk order of aluminum cans before the shortage occurred. The brewery at 15 E. Cross St. started two years ago with a goal of diversifying the craft beer market and creating accessibility. But the brewery will run out of cans soon.
"We're quickly running out and it's not looking like anyone will have any in the near future," said Patrick Echlin, one of three partners of 734 Brewing Company.
The brewery already uses 64-ounce growlers for to-go orders, but it has plans to make the switch from cans to glass bottles soon.
"I hope that the can shortage ends as quickly as possible and we can get back to normal," Echlin said. "But I know that might take a while. It's all in the future for us because we do still have some cans left. We're still planning what we're going to do when we do run out, which won't take very long."
In an emailed statement, Ball Beverage Packaging of North and Central America stated that certain can styles are in short supply, adding that the beer industry is not the only one experiencing this issue....

New Michigan program to provide COVID-19 resources to businesses

A new program for businesses to learn about COVID-19 safety guidelines is set to launch in Michigan.
Ambassadors will soon stop by businesses randomly to make sure the companies are doing everything needed
to operate during the coronavirus pandemic.
Public establishments will be the focus, which includes restaurants, bars, gyms, gas stations, convenience stores, retail stores and bowling alleys, said Sean Egan, Michigan COVID-19 workplace director.
"We just want to make sure that businesses understand what they need to be doing," said Egan. "That includes ensuring that they have a preparedness and response plan in place, that they are requiring employees and customers to wear face coverings and that they are thinking through the things that they can do in their workplace to prevent COVID."
A couple dozen ambassadors will take part in the program, which is hosted by the Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity and the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration. Dense and urban areas will receive more consultants than other areas.
A list of guidelines for specific industries
has been provided by the state, along with general workplace safety guidelines for COVID-19.
In a news release, Egan stated that Michigan's businesses and workers are in need of support during the pandemic. The MIOSHA Ambassadors Program will be guiding businesses on any issues that they find. No citations or penalties will be issued during their visit.
More: How 4 small Detroit businesses are dealing with coronavirus pandemic
More: School snow days in Michigan could be next victim of coronavirus: Here's what we know
"Keep in mind that this is a consultation program, not an investigation," said Egan. "The goal is to secure compliance through education, not to penalize employers. We would encourage them to take advantage of the opportunity."
An assessment will be used by ambassadors to make sure that businesses are following Michigan's executive orders, along with the state and federal guidelines.
"Collaboration is key in the effort to stop the spread of COVID-19," said MIOSHA Director Bart Pickelman in a news release. "Throughout the pandemic, we've heard from many employers and employees wanting to clarify regulations and determine how they apply to their specific workplace. This ambassador effort will bring that education and support directly to businesses across the state."

'Slave owner' spray painted on Macomb Monument during protests

As protesters of the group Detroit Will Breathe marched Saturday night to mark 100 days in Detroit calling for an end to police brutality, one controversial statue was defaced along the march route.
Police were alerted about 9:40 p.m. a bag was placed over the Gen. Alexander Macomb Monument at Michigan Avenue and Washington Boulevard, said Detroit Police Sgt. Nicole Kirkwood. Spray paint was also found on the statue.
Detroit Public Works will work to remove the paint and police are investigating, she said.

Canada to extend rent-relief program for small businesses: Globe and Mail

(Reuters) - The Canadian government will extend its coronavirus rent-relief program for small businesses into September, the Globe and Mail reported late on Saturday, citing sources familiar with the policy discussions.
Officials in the government are also working on options to reform the program, the website reported, adding that the extension of the program was meant to be an interim measure.
No-one was immediately available to verify the report.
The Canada Emergency Commercial Rent Assistance Program offered loans to landlords of entrepreneurs worth half the tenant's rent from April through August, if tenants pay a quarter and the landlord absorbs the remaining quarter.
However, the program requires landlords to apply, which has prompted low uptake and left many tenants powerless to get relief as their landlords refuse to make applications.
Canada had also rolled out the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) to offer broad support to the millions of Canadians who lost their jobs amid coronavirus shutdowns.
The government put the CERB program in place because the traditional employment insurance (EI) system could not handle the rapid influx of new applicants as millions of people were laid off, or lost work hours, due to COVID-19.
Many people also did not qualify for traditional EI.

Musk Meets Volkswagen CEO in Germany, Tests VW EV ID.3 | IE

They say that a little healthy competition never hurt anyone and it seems that might be the case with Tesla and Volkswagen. On Friday, local media reports in Germany revealed that Tesla CEO Elon Musk and Volkswagen Herbert Diess met in Germany, with the former even taking a test drive with the latter's ID.3 electric vehicle.
RELATED: VOLKSWAGEN CEO CLAIMS THAT THE SHIFT TO ELECTRIC CARS WON'T HURT MARGINS
Sources who refused to be identified also told Bloomberg that Musk inspected the ID.4 electric SUV that is planned to launch toward the end of the year. According to the media outlet, a spokesman for Volkswagen confirmed the meeting between the two executives but refused to give any further details.
This all happened after Musk left Berlin to fly to the airport in Braunschweig (Brunswick) which is close to Volkswagen's headquarters in Wolfsburg. There he had a two-hour meeting with Diess.
Diess is a long time fan of Musk. On a Linkedin post in July, he said: "Elon Musk delivers results that many did not think possible. They show: you can be profitable with electric cars. As one of the few car manufacturers (Porsche AG also, for example), Tesla will drive through the corona crisis without a quarter of losses."
Musk had been visiting Germany since Tuesday. He visited the pharmaceutical company Curevac GmbH, AD: autel maxitpms. as well as several politicians, and his new factory GigaBerlin outside the German capital in Gruenheide. 2021 Lucid Air’s Claimed 517 Miles of Range Comes From a Much Smaller Battery Than Expected

We'll finally see the 2021 Lucid Air luxury electric sedan debut on September 9 after years of wondering if it will ever happen, but now we've got another spicy detail, courtesy of Carscoops. The Air's battery pack is significantly smaller than people expected.
According to Lucid, the company had a third party perform range tests that conform to the EPA's current standard and found that the car produces an estimated 517 miles of range on a full charge-more than even the longest-range Tesla. The company also claims that the car puts out up to 1,000 horsepower. Electric vehicle pundits cited by Carscoops figured that the Lucid would need at least a 130 kWh battery pack to achieve that sort of range and power, but no! Lucid says that the Air has just a 113 kWh extended-range battery pack.
Like Tesla and many other EV makers, the Air's batteries sit beneath the passenger compartment. Lucid says claims that the Air's battery was designed specifically to be compact and energy dense for the sake of increasing room in the passenger compartment and storage areas.
While you may think that blowing your internal combustion engine's range out of the water is a silly pursuit for EVs, this is proof that it's leading to some truly interesting innovations. We all complain that EVs are heavy, You may need: diagnostic code reader. yet designing these smaller batteries opens up the possibility of lighter, more powerful (read: more fun) cars in the future.
"By pursuing this ‘smart range' approach, Lucid shall not only be able to offer the Air with this unprecedented absolute range, but also offer future models thpetitive range from proportionately smaller battery packs, thereby saving cost, weight, and space," Lucid Motors CEO and CTO Peter Rawlinson explained in today's announcement.
According to Lucid, the Air will sport the largest frunk ever offered in an electric vehicle with a capacity of around 74 gallons. That puts it at 89 percent larger than the frunks of electric vehicles in its class and 40 percent larger than the largest electric SUV frunk. Additionally, Lucid says the Air will have a the most luggage space out of all the electric and internal combustion vehicles in its class, clocking in at 195 gallons.
We'll see if all of these claims hold up after the Air's online reveal on September 9, but it certainly sounds promising.

US long-term mortgage rates little changed; 30-year at 2.93%

WASHINGTON (AP) - U.S. average rates on long-term mortgages changed little this week, remaining at historically low levels that has sparked demand for homes.
Mortgage buyer Freddie Mac reported Thursday that the average rate on the 30-year home loan ticked up to 2.93% from 2.91% last week. By contrast, the rate averaged 3.49% a year ago.
The average rate on the 15-year fixed-rate mortgage declined, however, to 2.42% from 2.46% last week.
Housing demand continues as one of few bright spots in the pandemic-hobbled economy. Sales of new homes soared in July, rising nearly 14% as the market continued to gain traction following the spring downturn caused by pandemic-forced lockdowns.
In the wider economy, the government reported Thursday that the number of laid-off Americans applying for unemployment benefits fell to a still-elevated 881,000 last week - evidence that the pandemic keeps forcing many businesses to slash jobs.

U.S. appeals court rejects Oracle's challenge in JEDI contract fight

By Nandita Bose
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Oracle Corp's long-running legal challenge to how the Pentagon set up its $10 billion JEDI cloud computing contract has been rejected by a U.S. appeals court.
At the heart of Oracle's dispute was whether the Pentagon should turn to a single company for its cloud computing services.
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit upheld a lower court ruling that Oracle wasn't harmed by any errors the Pentagon made in developing the contract because it wouldn't have qualified for the contract in the first place.
"Notwithstanding the extensive array of claims raised by Oracle, we find no reversible error in the Claims Court's decision," Circuit Judge William Bryson noted in his ruling.
In October, the Defense Department awarded the contract to Microsoft Corp over market leader Amazon.com Inc, which was long considered to be the favorite to win the award.
Amazon has alleged it lost out because of "improper pressure" and bias from President Donald Trump, a frequent critic of Amazon and its CEO Jeff Bezos, who also owns the Washington Post newspaper.
The contracting process had also long been mired in conflict of interest allegations.
The Joint Enterprise Defense Infrastructure Cloud (JEDI) contract is part of a broader digital modernization of the Pentagon aimed at making it more technologically agile.
Oracle and the Pentagon did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The ruling is a win for the Pentagon, which has been criticized for its decision to award such a high-profile contract to one vendor.
It faces a separate lawsuit by Amazon over claims the Pentagon failed to fairly judge its bid after Trump launched "repeated public and behind-the-scenes attacks to steer" the JEDI cloud contract away from the company.

PM Lee to take the stand in defamation trial of blogger Leong Sze Hian

Singapore - Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong will take the stand against blogger Leong Sze Hian when the latter's defamation trial opens in the High Court in October.
Mr Lee took legal action against Mr Leong for defamation after he shared an article on his Facebook page that alleged Mr Lee had helped to launder 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) funds.
The article, which Mr Leong posted on Nov 7, stated that former Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak had signed "secret deals" with Mr Lee in exchange for Singapore banks' help in laundering money from the embattled sovereign wealth fund.
On Monday (Aug 31), counsel for both parties attended a pre-trial conference before the trial judge, Justice Aedit Abdullah.
In a Facebook page, Mr Lim Tean, who is the counsel for Mr Leong, said the trial had been fixed from Oct 6 to 9 and that both Mr Lee and Mr Leong would attend to give evidence and be cross-examined.
"The expert witness who is to be called by Mr Lee, Dr Tuan Quang Phan, will give evidence via video link from Hong Kong (provided Hong Kong law allows him to do so)," according to the statement on Facebook. It added that "this point is being confirmed by Mr Lee's counsel at the moment".
It will be a physical trial. As there is much interest in the case, Justice Abdullah informed counsel that the largest court room available will be arranged for the trial.
Lee Hsien Loong v Leong Sze Hian High Court Trial Fixed For 6-9 October 2020.
Mr Lee will be represented by Senior Counsel Davinder Singh from Davinder Singh Chambers.
Mr Lee's lawyers had said earlier that the article's allegations were "false and baseless" and the Prime Minister sought aggravated damages and an injunction that Mr Leong be prevented from publishing or disseminating the defamatory allegations, or other allegations of complicity in matters relating to the embattled sovereign wealth fund.
Mr Leong denied that he was being malicious and said in court papers that he took down his Facebook post on Nov 10 after being told to do so by the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA).
Mr Leong also filed a counterclaim against Mr Lee, claiming that the defamation suit against him was an abuse of the process of the court. In March last year, the High Court allowed an application by Mr Lee to strike out the counterclaim. The court said the abuse of court process is not recognised in Singapore law as a basis for one party to bring legal action against another. /TISG
