Michigan farm worker says immigrant workers need coronavirus safety
For 15 years, Juana has labored on farms in Michigan, picking cherries, peaches, grapes and most recently, packing eggs.
In April, she became infected with the coronavirus and fell ill for a month and a half, causing her to miss out on work that she relies on to pay her bills.
"COVID-19 has affected me in a lot of ways, mentally, financially, economically," Juana, 39, said through a translator. "I was infected with COVID-19 because at work they did not provide us with security protections, did not give us masks. We had to buy masks with our own money. And many of us at work got sick due to the lack of protective equipment at our workplaces."
On Thursday, she joined immigrant advocates in calling upon farms to increase coronavirus testing and to provide better protections for farm workers, most of whom are Latino immigrants. Juana, who did not want to reveal her last name, spoke at an online press conference organized by the Michigan Immigrant Rights Centers and other advocacy groups.
"Farm workers want a safe workplace," Diana Marin, supervising attorney at Michigan Immigrant Rights Center, said. "They want to know if their coworkers have COVID or not. They want to protect their families and the broader community too."
It's unclear how many farm workers have tested positive for the coronavirus, but state officials have said the number of outbreaks at various locations has spiked from 11 to 21 this summer, alarming migrant advocates.

More: Michigan farms, immigrant advocates clash over coronavirus testing for workers
"Farm workers go out every day to support their family," Juana said. "We work under extreme climates." And now they're risking their health during the pandemic, she said, "afraid of making our family sick.
"While most people in the country are sheltered in their homes, with their family safe without missing something to eat, we are working," she said. "If there were no farm workers ... no one would have anything to eat."
On Thursday, immigration attorneys with the Michigan Immigrant Rights Center and other groups filed a friend of the court brief with the U.S. 6th Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati, opposing a lawsuit that was filed by attorneys representing farms trying to block a state order mandating coronavirus testing for farm workers.
"We need to make sure the court and the public understand what this case is really about and why it is so important to uphold the emergency health order" by the state, Marin, an immigration attorney, said.
On Aug. 3, the state of Michigan ordered farms, migrant camps and food processing centers to test all workers for the coronavirus and have protections for their workers. A lawsuit was then filed on behalf of farms who alleged the order unfairly singles out them and discriminates against Latino workers.
"The ... emergency order has the potential to completely uproot the lives of many Latino agricultural workers and threatens their livelihoods," said the Michigan Farm Bureau, a group that represents Michigan farmers and supports the lawsuit.
Immigrant advocates countered by saying the lawsuit was a cynical invoking of civil rights law to push the interests of farm owners, not Latino workers.
"Without this (state) mandate, the agricultural industry will continue to prioritize their own short term profits over the health of their workforce, the general public and the overall economy," Marin said Thursday. "The state is providing significant support to the agricultural industry to meet their obligations under the order. This includes millions of dollars in agricultural safety grants, reimbursement through health insurance and the option to directly request state assistance, to test workers and provide free quarantine housing."
On Aug. 21, Judge Paul Maloney of the Western District of Michigan ruled in favor of the state, rejecting a request by the farmers for an emergency injunction blocking the order.

Towing Gone Wrong Left Russia's Ekranoplan Stranded like a Beached Whale
Is it a plane? Is it a boat? Neither, it's the ekranoplan!
Ok, so it is, in fact, a combination of the two and could be called a flying missile boat of sorts. The Cold War-era Soviet Union ekranoplan was unique in naval and air force history, and is now sitting on the shores of a beach taking in water from the Caspian Sea.
Due to be showcased as the centerpiece in a museum, the last standing ekranoplan was being towed towards its final resting place when something went amiss, leaving it stranded like a beached whale.
SEE ALSO: YOUTUBER BUILDS THE SECRET RUSSIAN CRAFT EKRANOPLAN, AND IT CAN ACTUALLY FLY
As per Forbes, people have been attempting to tug the craft out of the water, AD:
Diagnostic Tool . sadly to no avail.
The once-mighty wing-in-ground (WIG) effect aircraft was an aerodynamic experiment led by the USSR. The plane was designed to fly just above the water's waves, benefitting from the aerodynamic effect called WIG, where air is compressed by the closeness of the wings to the ground, which creates a cushion effect and lifts the plane up.
This method of flying so close to the ground reduces drag, adding speed and endurance.
The Lun Class ekranoplan was the only one to be weaponized, as much as a missile boat. And the ekranoplan currently basking in the waves of the Caspian Sea was the only one ever completed with arms. The end of the Soviet Union brought the experimental aircraft construction to a grinding halt.
So the ekranoplan has been sitting without any action since then, until now. A big question mark remains as to whether or not the plane will be successfully pulled out of the water and brought to the museum.
In the meantime, catch a glimpse of the interior of the Cold War era's ekranoplan, which local urban photographer, Lana Sator, captured before it was towed just a week ago.

Arsenal condemn Watford to relegation as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang stars in five-goal thriller
Watford‘s five-year stay in the Premier League ended as they were relegated following a final-day defeat at Arsenal.
The Hornets knew their fate was out of their hands heading into the game at the Emirates Stadium and, despite rallying after slipping three goals behind, they ultimately fell to a 3-2 loss.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang hit a first-half brace either side of Kieran Tierney's first Arsenal goal – but Mikel Arteta's side will have to be better than this showing if they are to beat Chelsea in the FA Cup final next week.
Troy Deeney's penalty reduced the arrears before the break and former Arsenal man Danny Welbeck pulled another back – but, with Aston Villa drawing at West Ham and Bournemouth beating Everton – Watford finished 19th. See:
Autel OBD2 Diagnostic Tool .
The afternoon could not have started worse for Watford, who conceded a penalty in the opening minute.
Craig Dawson floored Alexandre Lacazette and, after a lengthy VAR review which also contained an offside check, Aubameyang tucked home the resulting spot-kick.
To be fair to Watford, they responded well and came close to an equaliser just before the 15-minute mark.
Ismaila Sarr cut inside from the right and fed Abdoulaye Doucoure, his shot blocked by Rob Holding into the path of Roberto Pereyra, who then drew a smart save out of Emiliano Martinez.
Deeney then headed straight at Holding as the visitors enjoyed a level of success when pushing forward.
But it was at the other end where their top-flight status was unravelling, Tierney's shot deflecting off Will Hughes to wrong-foot Ben Foster and double Arsenal's lead before the drinks break.
The third goal looked to have firmly finished off this game as a contest and Watford's top-flight stay, a throw-in into the visitors' box allowed to bounce unchallenged before Aubameyang controlled and turned home a fine overhead kick.
But captain and talisman Deeney at least gave Watford hope of a shock comeback, thrashing home a trademark penalty after David Luiz had tripped Welbeck.
There was certainly still some residual hope as Adam Masina fired just over, with Welbeck drawing a fine close-range save out of Martinez.
He would not have a chance soon after though when Welbeck was on hand to steer home Sarr's low cross and bring Watford to within a goal of Arsenal's seemingly-unassailable lead.
The same duo combined minutes later but this time Martinez brilliantly denied Welbeck a second from a clever flick.
With Watford taking more risks, they were exposing themselves at the back and needed Foster to be at his best to prevent Aubameyang completing his hat-trick from Eddie Nketiah's pass.
Watford maintained their threat but could not force an equaliser, which still would not have been enough given Villa's draw across London at West Ham as Arsenal ultimately finished eighth

Peeved Duterte denies rumored SG medical trip as Go shares photos of him in Davao City
A slightly irate President Rodrigo Duterte has denied swirling rumors that he flew out of the country over the weekend to get medical treatment in Singapore, just as his ally, Senator Christopher "Bong" Go, released photos of the president and his family in Davao City.
The chief executive said that even if he did hypothetically leave the country for any "private undertaking" such as visiting a friend's burial, it was damn well none of our business.
Well, not entirely. Executive Order No. 459 requires government workers, including the president, to secure permits before being given the "authority to travel abroad. AD:
Autel MaxiDiag MD806 . " But Duterte insisted that he had as much right to fly out of the Philippines as the next Filipino.
"I am under no obligation to travel in secret and not telling the republic at all. I am a citizen of this country, the right to travel is guaranteed...I do not have to hide it. I am not stupid enough to use government funds...So stop this nonsense about me going to Singapore, if at all," a peeved Duterte said in English and Filipino in a briefing aired late last night.
"If I wanted to go, I would go. It's none of your business," the president stressed in a louder, firmer voice.
Earlier last night, his erstwhile aide Go posted a photo of Duterte with his partner Honeylet Avanceña, daughter Kitty Duterte and an unidentified child. The four are seen sharing a meal in Duterte's home with Avanceña holding a copy of yesterday's newspaper.
"To people who are spreading fake news, have some conscience. The President is in the Philippines and is ready to service his fellow Filipinos," Go wrote in Filipino in the post.
It's not the first time that his loyal ally has had to dispel rumors about the president's ill health. In October last year, Go shared photoshopped photos of Duterte perched on a motorbike to prove that the head of state was in perfectly good shape after suffering a motorbike accident in Malacañang earlier that month, an incident that his allies all had confusing, different versions.
The 75-year-old president has admitted to enduring several medical conditions including Buerger's syndrome, an inflammation of the blood vessels, and myasthenia gravis, an autoimmune disease that causes muscle weakness. Duterte has also admitted to taking more than the required dosage of the highly addictive pain killer Fentanyl.
This article, Peeved Duterte denies rumored SG medical trip as Go shares photos of him in Davao City, originally appeared on Coconuts, Asia's leading alternative media company.

Genesis EV With Smooth Styling Spied For First Time
Here is our first look at the forthcoming Genesis EV that currently goes under the codename JW. While the exterior still wears lots of covering, we know that underneath the skin this vehicle rides on the electric vehicle platform that Hyundai and Kia also intend to use.
Looking at them both, the Genesis (below) has similar proportions to the Hyundai 45 EV (farther down). The major differences for this one are at the back where this vehicle appears to have a fastback-style tail, rather than the Hyundai's far more angular hatchback. You may need:
Bluetooth obd2 scanner .
The Genesis also has an upward-sweeping rear portion of the beltline, versus the straighter lines of the 45. These visible differences are hints that the Genesis might have a smooth, curvy exterior appearance.
The Genesis engineers completely conceal the front end of this car with a black covering. As if that doesn't hide enough, there are blocky sections on the hood to obscure the actual shape.
While there are no photos of this vehicle's cabin, expect the Genesis to be a high-tech place on the inside. Given its role as Hyundai's premium brand, the company would load the model with the features to compete against the latest EVs from rivals like BMW and Audi.
Unfortunately, there are few details available about the Genesis EV's powertrain. The vehicle's E-GMP platform can support a variety of battery capacities that could allow for a range of 311 miles (500 kilometers) or more, according to The Korean Car Blog. The setup's output is still a mystery, but an all-wheel-drive layout seems very likely since it's practically the norm for this class.
The Korean Car Blog also reports that the production of the Genesis EV begins in June 2021. If this is the case, then we'd suspect the unveiling to happen very late this year or early next year.

Testing of CanSino's COVID-19 candidate vaccine begins in Russia
MOSCOW/BEIJING (Reuters) - A late-stage trial of a COVID-19 candidate vaccine from CanSino Biologics Inc has started in Russia, registration records showed, as the Chinese pharmaceutical firm steps up testing abroad to close in on regulatory approval.
The Ad5-nCoV vaccine already has approval for use by China's military after early and mid-stage trials, and further late-stage trials are being lined up for Mexico and Saudi Arabia.
CanSino last month said it was in talks for opportunities to launch late-stage - or Phase 3 - trials in Saudi Arabia, Russia, Brazil and Chile.
The company has won a patent approval from Beijing for the vaccine, Chinese state media reported on Sunday, citing documents from the country's intellectual property regulator. AD:
diagnostic scanner .
CanSino and compatriots including Sinovac Biotech Ltd and China National Pharmaceutical Group Co Ltd (Sinopharm) are testing candidates overseas as China becomes less conducive for Phase 3 trials due to its small number of new COVID-19 cases.
The completion of Phase 3 trials is generally required for regulatory approval to distribute a vaccine for public use.
Russia's state register https://bit.ly/2DSHY0O for clinical trials showed a Phase 3 study expected to recruit 625 volunteers across eight medical institutes to test the safety and effectiveness of Ad5-nCoV began on Friday.
CanSino declined to offer more details on the Russian trial when contacted by Reuters, saying the information was confidential.
Russia was the first country to grant regulatory approval for public use of a COVID-19 vaccine, after less than two months of human testing. That vaccine uses adenovirus to carry antigen from coronavirus into human cells, an approach similar to that of Ad5-nCoV.
Last month, Russian biotech group Biocad said it was discussing producing in China a potential COVID-19 vaccine being developed by Russia's Vector state virology institute.
With 927,745 cases, Russia has the world's fourth-highest number of infections.

How This 1970 Oldsmobile Cutlass Went From a Christmas Wish to a 463-Cubic-Inch Pro-Tourer
Have you ever asked for cash as a gift? They say gifting money is tacky because it requires zero thought and sentiment, but cold hard cash can also be the gift of possibilities. On Christmas morning 2010, a then 13-year old Pat Gorman had only one wish-400 bucks. It was all he needed to reach his goal of $1,400 required to buy a rusty, Astro blue 1970 Oldsmobile Cutlass S. Fast forward 10 years later, this once-traditional muscle car is now a pro-touring Olds-mo-beast, and the story of how they built it is true to old-school tradition. You may need:
diagnostic scanner .
The Christmas story on how Pat became the third and current owner of the Cutlass is worthy of a Hallmark movie. Pat wanted to buy a project car to fix-up by the time he was old enough to drive, and he wanted an Oldsmobile. Why? Because his father worked and saved to buy a 1970 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme convertible during his early teens. Unfortunately for Pat's father, that Olds was lost in a freak engine-bay fire the day he got his driver's license.
For months, Pat searched online for the right project car, and by "right" we mean affordable. This '70 Olds suddenly appeared on eBay with a buy-now price of $1,400. Close to Pat's price range, but he was still short $400.
On Christmas Day 2010, Pat received the $400 he needed, but the sentiment was bittersweet as weeks before the car's listing had vanished. He had the cash, but the Cutlass wasn't available and he decided to hold off on searching for another project. However, the small cardboard box where the money was stored included a set of stainless-steel car keys. At first, Pat thought they were the keys to his father's 1977 GMC truck and was ecstatic about having that as his first project car. Like a kid with a new Red Ryder BB gun, he ran out to the backyard to unlock the truck only to discover that the keys didn't fit in the ignition. A moment of confusion power-shifted into unexpected shock as he walked out of the backyard and saw the Astro-blue 1970 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme parked in the driveway.
The car was technically a running project, but after decades of Connecticut winters, the Olds was being eaten away from the fenders up by rust. Pat and his father completed the body-off restoration, interior and suspension, all in their driveway. He was then able to drive the Olds on the last day of his junior year of high school, sporting a spray-can black paint job and running a 330-cubic-inch V8 from a 1965 Oldsmobile with a 200r4 transmission.
The Oldsmobile now wears Twilight blue and turns its wheels using a 455 V8 bored to 463 with Edelbrock heads, Eagle rods and crankshaft, SRP pistons and a Holly Sniper EFI. It manages to stay cool using an aluminum radiator with Derale dual electric fans. Finally for the powertrain, its sending all that twist to the rear wheels through a TH400 automatic transmission with a shift kit.
Pat wanted this ‘70s muscle car to handle, so he gave it a catalog's worth of suspension parts from UMI Performance that includes a corner max handling kit, tubular rear control arms, rear sway-bar, shocks and a set of Wilwood disc brakes.
1970 Oldsmobeast Interior
Rather than turn the Olds into a full restomod, Pat opted to keep the vibe as period-correct as possible. One would have to get on the ground and look under the wheel-well to admire all the work invested into this Cutlass S. A Competition Engineering half-cage with safety harnesses draped over a set of Corbeau CR1 bucket seats gives a taste, though.
The Oldsmobeast was his daily ride in high school but has now been promoted to light weekend duty when the sun is out. Pat wanted to use the Olds in autocross events but the COVID pandemic has put the kibosh on those plans, at least temporarily. Still, Pat has owned this car for 10 years and it holds a priceless amount of sentimental value as a father-son build. Pat is 22 going on 23 and is a recent mechanical engineer graduate looking for employment.
If I were him, I'd take the Olds to job interviews as a rolling resume.

Use tzatziki dressing, garden cucumbers for summer pasta salad recipe
Today's recipe mashup takes a pretty traditional tzatziki sauce and uses it as a dressing for a refreshing, summer pasta salad.
Tzatziki (pronounced tsah-tsee-kee) is a creamy, white sauce often served as a dip, spread, condiment or simply eaten alone.
Traditionally made with Greek yogurt, diced cucumbers, lemon juice, garlic, salt, pepper, and a variety of herbs such as dill weed, parsley or mint, Tzatziki is commonly paired with an array of Mediterranean dishes. Souvlaki (shish kebab), gyros, dolmades (stuffed grape leaves), roast lamb, pork or beef, seafood, rice dishes and grilled vegetables get a flavor boost with the addition of tzatziki sauce. See:
Autel Diagnostic Tool .
More: Food prices decline in July, even as the overall cost for consumer goods rise
More: You might recognize the family behind this new, locally made gourmet salsa
More: Sugar snap peas are loaded with a healthy dose of vitamin C
We used cucumbers two different ways in today's recipe - grated in the dressing and diced in the salad. The grated cucumber, squeezed of excess moisture, infuses a fresh, subtle cucumber flavor into the dressing itself, and the diced cucumber in the salad provides a nice crunch.
Cucumbers are the perfect snack for those watching their waistline, with one cup sliced providing a mere 14 calories. Their skins are a surprisingly good source of lutein, a beneficial phytonutrient that may keep our eyes healthy. So, leave the peel on for today's recipe.
A seedless cucumber, also known as an English or hothouse cucumber, worked well in this pasta salad. Look for cucumbers that are very firm and rounded on the ends. The skin should be deep, rich green in color, not pale or yellow.
If you're looking to make this salad into a meal, add some protein. Diced chicken breast, canned light tuna, or chickpeas (garbanzo beans) would be a great add-in.

Serves: 9 (¾ cup per serving) / Prep time: 20 minutes / Total time: 30 minutes
1 whole English (seedless) cucumber, divided
½ cup low-fat plain Greek yogurt
¼ cup reduced-fat sour cream
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
1 clove garlic, peeled, minced
1 tablespoon minced fresh dill weed
½ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon black pepper
6 ounces dry whole wheat elbow macaroni
1 cup diced red bell pepper
â…“ cup diced red onion
¼ cup crumbled feta cheese
¼ cup whole, pitted kalamata olives, diced
Cut a 3-inch piece of cucumber (about 3 ounces), with skin and grate using a box grater. Squeeze excess moisture from grated cucumber and place in a bowl with yogurt, sour cream, oil, lemon juice, garlic, dill, salt and black pepper. Stir to combine and refrigerate while preparing other ingredients.
In a large saucepan of unsalted boiling water, cook macaroni according to package directions. Drain pasta and rinse under cold water; drain well and transfer to a large bowl. Add 1 cup diced cucumber from remaining cucumber, red pepper and onion to pasta. Reserve any leftover cucumber.
Pour dressing over pasta mixture, stirring gently to coat. Top with feta cheese and diced olives, lightly toss and serve.

South Africa crime rate falls 40 percent in coronavirus lockdown
Crime-plagued South Africa posted a drastic drop in criminal offences, including sexual assaults, during the first three months of its coronavirus lockdown.
Crime rates dropped by up to 40 percent between April and June, when the country was placed under strict stay-home restrictions aimed at limiting the spread of the virus, Police Minister Bheki Cele said on Friday.
"These statistics show major decreases in all crime categories compared to the same comparative period last year," Cele said.
He added that the statistics "paint a never-seen-before 'rosy' picture of a peaceful South Africa experiencing a 'crime holiday'".
"A 40.4 percent decrease in the number of rape cases were reported during the three months," Cele told a news conference.
Contact-related crimes, such as arson and malicious damage to property, registered a 29 percent drop.
The country's lockdown regulations included a ban on the sale of alcohol and cigarettes.
Cele said the figures showed that the absence of alcohol had helped reduce crime.
But he added that attacks on schools and liquor stores had risen, with burglaries reported at 2,692 education facilities and 1,246 shops over the same time period.
South Africa, which has one of the highest crime rates in the world, is home to more than half of the continent's coronavirus infections.
To date the country has recorded almost 573,000 cases and more than 11,200 deaths.

25 Places You Can't See on Google Maps or Google Street View
We're used to viewing just about anywhere we want on Google Maps, but there are some places that are off-limits. Come along with us as we tour 25 places that can't be seen on Google Maps or Google Street View.
Type "Jeannette Island Russia" into Google Maps search, and what you'll see is a whole lot of nothing on both map view and satellite view. You'll also see a popup message telling you that the island is "Unavailable 76.717947,158.109982."
Even though we can't see it, Jeannette Island is located in the East Siberian Sea, and it is thought that the island contains a Russian military base that someone doesn't want you to see.
Sometimes someone does something so abhorrent that the site of their crime should be hidden forever. Such is the case of Arial Castro, the man who kept three young women captive in his home in Cleveland for a decade.
Type his address of 2207 Seymour Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio into Google Maps USA, and all you'll see is a blur.

If you ever get curious about what's going on at France's Marcoule Nuclear Site, you're not likely to find out. Because the entire site appears pixelated on Google Maps France at the request of the French government.
They might be understandably nervous because Marcoule is one of France's top nuclear research facilities, and it also houses two tritium-producing nuclear reactors.
If you're feeling frustrated about not being able to see Marcoule, things won't be any better if you search for the AREVA La Hague Nuclear Plant near La Hague, France within Google Maps.
Google Maps Satellite View of that site only shows a pixelated image.
On the south-east coast of Spain sits the city of Almeira, and if you want to check out the town on Google Maps Spain, you're going to see something unusual.
A large section of the town known as the Patio de Los Naranjos, or "Yard of Orange Trees," is completely blurred out. What actually sits within that square is a government office and a courthouse to which only visitors are allowed access. As for why it is blurred, it remains a mystery.
While it isn't blurred or pixelated on Google Maps Japan, this one-runway airport on the island of Minami Torishima is over-saturated with white.
That might be because the island, which is located off the east coast of Japan, is used by the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force.
Talk about schizophrenic, half of this island is clear, and the other half is obscured. Between 1966 and 1996, the French conducted nuclear tests on Moruroa.
Not only is half the island obscured, but the entire island is off-limits to visitors.
Sitting out in the Atlantic Ocean, midway between Norway and Iceland, are the Faroe Islands. Comprised of 18 volcanic islands, they are part of the Kingdom of Denmark.
Inexplicably, on Google Maps Europe, parts of the islands are clear, and other parts are obscured. The islands are connected to one another by bridges, causeways, tunnels, and ferries, and they feature mountains, valleys, and heathland. The Faroe Islands are home to thousands of sea birds.
The High-Frequency Active Auroral Research Program (HAARP) was funded by the U.S. Air Force, Navy, and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). While you can see its building on Google Maps Alaska, the image is over-saturated with white.
HAARP'S purpose was to analyze the ionosphere, which is the layer of the earth's atmosphere that is able to reflect radio waves and extends from 50 to 600 miles (80 to 1,000 km) above the earth's surface, and to develop ionospheric enhancement technology for radio communications and surveillance.
Do a search for North Korea on Google Maps and you'll see that a section of that country's western shore is blurred.
Given how secretive the country is, it's probably not a surprise that something is blurred.
Not to be outdone by their neighbor to the north, South Korea also has a blurred out area along its west coast, due west of its capital city Seoul.
What is located there is anyone's guess.
While you can see the White House quit...

The 2020 Indy 500's Pace Car Is This C8 Corvette
Pace cars from the Indianapolis 500 aren't always cool. For instance, in 2001, the official Indy pace car was an Oldsmobile Bravada. However, they're typically something a bit more exciting, like a Corvette. In fact, the Corvette has historically been the most common Indy pace car. See:
code reader . It makes sense then that for the 104th edition of the famous race approaching in August, a new 2020 C8 Corvette will be used, and it will be driven by none other than GM President Mark Reuss.
Now, the Torch Red Corvette isn't going to be modified very heavily for the task; in fact, it's just receiving some decals denoting its pace car status. That should be enough to instantly boost its price once it's eventually posted to Craigslist in 20 years, though. This particular Corvette also has a good list of options, like the power-boosting Z51 performance package, the Corvette accessory spoiler and ground effects package, and the GT2 Bucket Seats. So pace car or not, you'll still have 495 horsepower and be able to hit 60 miles-per-hour in a hair under three seconds. That should be plenty of power to guide a group of Indy cars around a track, so long as the driver keeps it within the lines.
The race this year was rescheduled from its usual May start date due to the coronavirus pandemic-it will take place next Sunday, on Aug. 23. And in case you were thinking about going in person, well, there was a bit of confusion about that. The original plan was to have 50 percent attendance, which was later reduced to 25 percent before it was decided that no spectators would be allowed at all. Although that's disappointing, it's for the best. Passing on the outside of Turn 1 is plenty entertaining no matter where you're sitting.
