Tony Hsieh, retired Zappos CEO, dies at 46 after house fire

LAS VEGAS (AP) - Tony Hsieh, the retired CEO of Las Vegas-based online shoe retailer Zappos.com, who spent years working to transform the city's downtown area, has died. He was 46.
Hsieh was with family when he died Friday, according to DTP Companies, which he founded. He died of injuries suffered in a Nov. 18 fire in New London, Connecticut, Downtown Partnership spokesperson Megan Fazio told Hearst Connecticut Media on Saturday.
The Day newspaper reported the day of the fire that one person had been removed from a waterfront home in New London with possible burns and smoke inhalation. The person, whose name authorities did not release, was eventually taken to Bridgeport Hospital, which has a burn center.
Fire Chief Thomas Curcio was quoted by The Day as saying that crews arrived around 3:30 a.m. after a report of someone trapped in part of the house, that firefighters had to force their way in, and that they removed the victim, performed CPR and took him to a hospital.
Hsieh recently retired from Zappos after 20 years leading the company. The online shoe retailer shared a tribute on social media late Friday.
"The world has lost a tremendous visionary and an incredible human being," the statement said. "His spirit will forever be a part of Zappos."
Hsieh was a Harvard University graduate who joined the company - then called ShoeSite.com - in 1999. Zappos was sold to Amazon for $1.2 billion in 2009, but Hsieh had remained with the company until his retirement.
"Tony's kindness and generosity touched the lives of everyone around him, and forever brightened the world," a DTP Companies statement said. "Delivering happiness was always his mantra, so instead of mourning his transition, we ask you to join us in celebrating his life."
For years, Hsieh also worked to revitalize downtown Las Vegas, pledging $350 million in 2013 for redevelopment. The same year he moved Zappos' headquarters into the former Las Vegas City Hall building.
"Tony Hsieh played a pivotal role in helping transform Downtown Las Vegas," Nevada Gov. Steve Sisolak tweeted Friday night. "Kathy and I send our love and condolences to Tony's family and friends during this difficult time."
Many tributes poured out on social media.
"Your curiosity, vision, and relentless focus on customers leave an indelible mark," Jeff Bezos, Amazon's CEO and president, posted on Instagram. "You will be missed by so many, Tony. Rest In Peace."
"Tony Hsieh might be the most original thinker I've ever been friends with," former venture investor Chris Sacca tweeted. "He questioned every assumption and shared everything he learned along the way. He genuinely delighted in making anyone and everyone happy."
Skateboarder and entrepreneur Tony Hawk added, "Tony Hsieh was a visionary. He was generous with his time and willing to share his invaluable expertise with anyone."
"A truly original thinker, a brilliant entrepreneur, and a kind-hearted and generous friend to so many," tweeted entrepreneur Max Levchin.
Ali Partovi, CEO of the venture capital fund Neo, was a partner in one of Hsieh's earliest ventures, the internet advertising company LinkExchange. In a tweet Saturday, Partovi said Hsieh was one of the most creative people he had ever known.
"I'll remember your unique combo of genius and mischief, and your infuriating ability to bet against all odds and win," Partovi said.

Let Ferrari Design Boss Guide You Through The SF90 Spider

Have you ever wondered what it takes to design the latest Ferrari supercars? Well, today we're in luck as Ferrari released a video of Design Boss Flavio Manzoni explaining the design of the new Ferrari SF90 Spider. Sure, you can look at a car and find elements of beauty and function, but to truly understand a car, you need to learn from its designer's intentions.
Flavio Manzoni has quite a resume when it comes to car design. He is responsible for the design of some of the most beautiful modern Ferraris including: the Ferrari FF, F12 Berlinetta, 458 Speciale, Autel mk908p
. LaFerrari, California T, 488, 812 Superfast, Portofino, Monza SP1, SF90, and so on. Besides defining the look of all modern Ferraris, Manzoni was also head of design at VW Auto Group where he worked on the new Scirocco, Golf, and UP!.
Listening to Manzoni explain the design of the SF90 Spider is a rare treat as consumers rarely get a chance to listen to a car designer explain a car in great detail. Many times we're left to draw our own conclusions about why a car looks the way it does, but to hear the real reason gives new levels of appreciation for a final production car.
In the case of the Ferrari SF90 Spider, Manzoni takes a great deal of time explaining how integrated all of the aerodynamic elements are in this special supercar. On the surface, we see a beautiful Ferrari, but now we know what lurks under the beautiful skin of this impressive performance machine.
The concentration on beauty alongside performance gives Ferrari a unique edge over competitors who focus on performance above all else. With Manzoni at the helm, we should continue to expect Ferraris to remain beautiful and purposeful.

Mich. unemployment policies left state vulnerable to fraud, report says

Senior leaders at Michigan's Unemployment Insurance Agency disagreed over balancing fraud prevention with quickly distributing
benefits to millions of Michigan residents during the COVID-19 pandemic, resulting in "hundreds of millions" being distributed to criminals, a report released Wednesday by the agency showed.
The report, prepared by Deloitte & Touche LLP for the UIA, said, "It is apparent there was a lack of consensus among UIA administrators regarding certain ... changes taking place."
It cited an email sent by Teresa Burns, You may need: diagnostic code reader. director for the Internal Controls Division at the UIA, in which Burns said
the agency was "pushing forward and relaxing a number of requirements in an effort to get as many paid as possible and to do so quickly."
The report noted that Burns said Steve Gray, then director of the UIA who resigned earlier this month, had said on a call with UIA leaders that fraud prevention was not a high priority. Burns found that "concerning," the report said.
The email has not been independently verified by the Detroit Free Press.
The report also noted that while several executives at the UIA recalled hearing Gray make those comments, Gray denied - and didn't recall - making them.
Gray did not immediately respond to a request for comment Wednesday.
More: Director of Michigan's Unemployment Insurance Agency resigns
More: Whitmer calls UIA director's resignation 'a good thing'
The report, sent to Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's office Wednesday, details how the UIA handled an influx of fraudulent claims
this spring that were part of an international criminal ring meant to exploit state unemployment programs across the country.
A spokesperson for Whitmer said the agency agrees with the report's conclusions and in many cases has taken corrective actions to address the findings.
"Under new leadership, UIA will continue to review its operations and procedures in an effort to make sure it's striking the right balance between getting timely payments to hardworking families and fraud protection," said Tiffany Brown, spokesperson for Whitmer's office.
The Deloitte analysis, confirmed by the UIA's own partial audits, found that it was likely hundreds of millions of dollars were distributed to criminals. The report noted that most of the money incorrectly sent out was Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act funds from the federal government, not money from the state.
More: 340,000 Michigan unemployment claims, or 20%, flagged for fraud, state says
As the UIA rushed to distribute benefits to millions of Michigan residents who were laid off as businesses across the state closed under a stay-home order, it also experienced a flood of fraudulent claims. In order to more quickly get benefits to filers, the UIA removed some stop-gates.
"While the agency's previous decisions sought to balance fraud prevention and timely payment to eligible claimants, we strongly agree with the report's findings that policy, technological and organizational changes increased the agency's potential exposure to fraud," said Liza Estlund Olson,
acting director of the UIA. Estlund Olson took on her role after Gray departed.
Early in June, the agency
investigated 340,000 claims that had already received some payment, or 20% of all claims paid by the state at that point.
This means at least some money was distributed to criminals at the same time benefits were held up for real claimants, many of whom had been flagged for fraud.
The report also found that in a rush to hire more customer service representatives to answer calls from filers, the agency contracted with three outside vendors, and the UIA did not perform background checks or due diligence on the contractors they hired, under the expectation that the outside vendors would do so.
One of those hires was Brandi Hawkins, who has since been charged in a scheme that sought to fraudulently disburse mor...

These New Solar Panels Don't Need Sunlight to Produce Energy | IE

Solar panels are a cornerstone of the clean energy revolution. And yet, they have one great flaw: when the clouds roll in their productivity dives.
Now, a new type of solar panel has been developed by an electrical engineering student at Mapua University that harvests the unseen ultraviolet light from the sun that makes it through even dense cloud coverage.
Maigue, who won the James Dyson Sustainability Award for his creation, hopes it will soon be used on the windows and walls of large buildings, You may also like: diagnostic scanner. turning them into constant sources of energy.
RELATED: NEW 'COLD TUBE' PANELS MIGHT REPLACE TRADITIONAL A/C
The concept, called AuREUS (which stands for Aurora Renewable Energy and UV Sequestration), was invented by Carvey Ehren Maigue a student at Mapua University in the Philippines.
It uses luminescent particles from fruit and vegetable waste that absorb UV light and convert it into visible light. A solar film then converts that visible light into energy.
"It's similar to how we breathe in oxygen and we exhale carbon dioxide," Maigue explained to Fast Company. "It takes in ultraviolet light, and then after some time it would shed it as visible light."
With Maigue's winning prize in the James Dyson Sustainability Award comes a $35,000 prize that will allow him to develop his idea further.
Maigue's prototype for AuREUS is a single 3-by-2-foot lime gree-tinted panel that he installed in the window in his apartment. In his demonstration for the James Dyson Award, he showed that his test panel can generate enough electricity to charge two phones per day. Scaled up, Maigue says these panels would enable buildings to run entirely on their own electricity.
The creator also says the flexibility of the material - the resin can even be applied to fabric for clothing - allows designers to use the panels in a variety of different, innovative designs that could help more people to understand and adopt renewable energy solutions.
"If we can democratize renewable energy, we can bring it both physically closer to people as well as psychologically closer," Maigue told Fast Company. "It would give them a sense of access to it, that they are closer to it, that they don't have to be large institutions that have the capability to harvest solar energy with their rooftops."
Maigue's next step is to develop his first building installation of AuREUS at a small medical clinic on the island of Jomalig, off the Philippine mainland, that is frequently left without power during storms. For more information on AuREUS take a look at the James Dyson Foundation video below.

Scania launches electrically assisted steering

Scania is introducing EAS as an option on its trucks. The electrically assisted steering will enhance the driving experience and enable new or improved driver support systems. Together they will help reduce the mental load on drivers from handling huge vehicles such as truck combinations on busy high-ways. The EAS-based ADAS functions are active at speeds above 60 km/h, although drivers must still keep their hands on the steering wheel.
"The electrically assisted steering is a great addition to our offer, enabling significant capabilities in the name of increased comfort and road safety," says Stefan Dorski, Senior Vice President and Head of Scania Trucks. "Reducing some of the mental load that comes with being responsible for huge vehicles is a great support to all the truck drivers out there serving the rest of us."
Scania's EAS system is electro-hydraulic, speed dependent and offers functionality such as active return and compensation for side wind-induced offset. The control algorithm includes factors such as velocity, Autel MaxiIM IM608
. ensuring that the steering wheel torque is always proportional to the resistance coming from the wheels. With the electro-hydraulic steering, the wheel steers back to neutral by itself. This is extra beneficial when reversing.
"EAS and the support systems should be exactly that, supportive," says Dorski. "We have no intention to take away our renowned road-handling capabilities or the great feel of driving a Scania. And it is important to understand that the driver is still responsible and in command, despite the comfort and safety functions."
Scania trucks with EAS can be ordered with several smart support systems that , based on a de-facto standard in the automotive industry, all are identified using confusing acronyms. Scania's answer is to bundle these support systems into three packages – named Detection, Prevention, and Comfort – that will guide potential customers by through a simple and logical structure.
Most of the functions can be activated or deactivated by the driver. Some also have partly overlapping functionality, depending on factors such as speed, monitoring area, range and the availability of road markings in good condition.
The EAS-based systems all share a common warning logic with escalating levels of activation with sound, coloured lights or, eventually in some cases, active steering of the truck.
Comfort and/or safety
The three new functions that are made possible by the EAS introduction are the following, adding either comfort or increased safety:
LKA – Lane Keep Assist
LKA is constantly monitoring the lane markings to keep the vehicle centred in the lane by utilising active steering. LKA provides support when it is activated and the activation conditions (speed of at least 60 km/h) are fulfilled.
LDW AS – Lane Departure Warning with Active Steering
This is an extension to the standard LDW function. It not only detects potential lane departures but also intervenes by steering the vehicle back into the lane. Intended lane changes, when the driver makes use of the direction indicator lamp, are of course not affected.
LCP – Lane Change Collision Prevention
LCP works together with Scania's Blind Spot Warning system to avoid lane change incidents. When BSW triggers its most intense warning, by detecting for example another vehicle, LCP uses active steering to stop the lane change (even if the direction indicator lamps are activated) and bring the truck back to its former lane. "EAS brings more capabilities than you might first think of," says Dorski. "Not only does it add comfort and relief for all kinds of normal driving, but it can also help mitigate incidents. The ADAS features help by taking out some of the concrete stress factors, such as blind spots, which is highly beneficial for truck drivers."

Singapore activist charged for one-man smiley face protest

A Singaporean activist was charged Monday with staging an illegal one-man protest after he stood outside a police station holding a sign bearing a smiley face.
The tightly controlled city-state has tough laws against dissent that make it illegal for even one person to hold a demonstration without a police permit.
Jolovan Wham, who has had numerous run-ins with the authorities, posted a photo of himself on social media in March holding the cardboard sign with the roughly drawn face.
He said he took the photo to support a climate activist who was questioned by police for taking a picture in the same spot holding a sign that read: "SG is better than oil".
Wham, 40, was charged in court with taking part in a public assembly without a permit.
The activist posted a photo on social media of himself on his way to court wearing a t-shirt and a face mask with a smiley face printed on them.
"My guilt is plain for all to see," he said.
He was also charged for holding up a sign in 2018 outside court calling on the government to drop defamation charges against two men over an online article that alleged corruption among officials.
Wham faces a fine of up to Sg$5,000 (US$3,700) for each offence if he is found guilty, You may also like: Topdon scan tool. according to charge sheets.
The activist served a 10-day jail term earlier this year for organising an event in 2016 that featured prominent Hong Kong democracy campaigner Joshua Wong speaking via Skype.
Permits for protests are rarely granted in Singapore, and demonstrations are only allowed without prior police approval in the corner of one downtown park.

Wolves 1-1 Southampton: Player Ratings as Hosts Battle Back to Earn Point

Wolves without Conor Coady? Whatever next, Wolves playing with four at the back?
Wait....what?!
Nuno Espirito Santo was forced to play without his captain in a league match for the first time in 121 fixtures and changed his entire system to do it as Southampton came to town. A back four caught Ralph Hasenhuttl's team off-guard, but the Saints recovered, and led through Theo Walcott's 58th minute strike.
Wolves' setup was unfamiliar, but their mentality wasn't. Predictably, they found their late goal, when substitute Pedro Neto equalised to set up a grand finale.
Ultimately, however, the points were shared - probably a fair conclusion to a tight encounter at Molineux. Never mind all that, eh, let's get into some player ratings.
Rui Patricio (GK) - 6/10 - Only had a couple of saves to make but was ready when called upon.
Nelson Semedo (RB) - 5/10 - Head was in his hands after he switched off and lost Walcott for the opener. Defensive positioning is not his strong point and was woefully exposed in a back four.
Willy Boly (CB) - 6/10 - Didn't look comfortable in the new defensive set-up and was caught out once or twice by Che Adams. Otherwise held his own and didn't do much to merit criticism.
Max Kilman (CB) - 6/10 - Barely noticed he was playing in truth which isn't always a bad thing for a centre-back. Defended capably and his distribution was tidy.
Rayan Ait-Nouri (LB) - 7/10 - The best of Wolves' defenders found himself in the wars once or twice but looked more than up for the fight. Got himself up and down the left flank and looked capable whenever the ball came to him.
Joao Moutinho (CM) - 7/10 - Looked the most alive of Wolves' midfielders and the only one even remotely suited to his role in the three. Grew into the game as it wore on and was central to everything his side did in the final half hour.
Ruben Neves (CM) - 6/10 - Seemed wasted sitting between the lines but did the role asked of him with minimal fuss before he was brought off with 20 minutes to go.
Leander Dendoncker (CM) - 5/10 - It was expected he'd fill in at centre-back in the absence of Coady but the change of shape caught almost everyone off-guard. Instead, the Belgian played as one of the more advanced central midfielders, and looked a little out of place.
Adama Traore (RW) - 5/10 - Was recalled to bring some dynamism to the Wolves attack and did that at times. Looked frustrated though and was booked for a late challenge on Moussa Djenepo in the first half.
Raul Jimenez (CF) - 6/10 - Was unlucky to rattle the post with his long-range effort but would have been delighted to see Pedro Neto follow in on the rebound. Quiet game for the big Mexican.
Daniel Podence (LW) - 5/10 - Fairly anonymous for the most part, didn't hide but struggled to make anything happen.
Pedro Neto - 6/10 - Was in the right place at the right time to bring Wolves level, and looked generally bright.Vitinha - 5/10
Alex McCarthy (GK) - 7/10 - Relatively busy day at the office as he denied Nelson Semedo and Daniel Podence in either half but matched everything in another strong performance.
Kyle Walker-Peters (RB) - 6/10 - The former Tottenham man was fine defensively but guilty of overplaying it at times. Was almost caught out with five minutes remaining.
Jan Bednarek (CB) - 6/10 - Kept things held together at the back and rarely put a foot wrong, though might have reacted quicker for the equaliser if we're splitting hairs.
Jan Vestergaard (CB) - 7/10 - Won basically everything in the air which is no small feat against Raul Jimenez. Looked steady, composed on the ball, covered his lack of pace with some excellent positional work that even got the better of Traore on one occasion.
Ryan Bertrand (LB) - 6/10 - You could almost hear him groaning from your living room when Bertrand saw he was up against Adama Traore. He coped reasonably well but found himself caught out of position on a couple of occasions.
Stuart Armstrong (RM) - 7/10 - The perfect counterweight to the dynamic Djenepo on the other side, Armstrong did the legwork and brought some hustle and bustle to the right hand side. Started the move for the opener himse...

'Black Lightning' to End on The CW After 4th Season

"Black Lightning" will follow "Supergirl" out the door on The CW. The DC Comics series will conclude after its upcoming fourth season.
The CW said earlier it was developing a spinoff around the villain Painkiller, who has been played by Jordan Calloway. A backdoor pilot for the series will air as the seventh episode of the now-final fourth season.
"Black Lightning" returns Monday, Feb. 8.
Here's a statement from showrunner/executive producer Sam Akil:
"When we first started the 'Black Lighting' journey, I knew that Jefferson Pierce and his family of powerful Black Women would be a unique addition to the super hero genre," Akil said. "The love that Blerds and all comic book fans around the globe have shown this series over the past three seasons proved what we imagined, Black People Want To See Themselves in all their complexities."
The series is based on the DC Comics character of the same name and stars Cress Williams as Jefferson Pierce/Black Lightning. The series also stars Nafessa Williams, China Anne McClain, Christine Adams, Marvin "Krondon" Jones III, James Remar and Damon Gupton.
During the first season of The CW superhero drama, Calloway recurred as Khalil Payne, a high school all-American track star until a stray bullet severs his spine. He's then recruited by Tobias Whale (Marvin "Krondon" Jones III) who offers him legs for loyalty. Before his injury, Payne was romantically involved with Black Lightning's youngest daughter, Jennifer Pierce (China Anne McClain). He returned as Painkiller in the show's second season.
Along with "Black Lightning," "Supergirl" will conclude with its upcoming sixth season in 2021, as the network continues to move to its next phase of DC Comics characters. "Arrow" ended its 8-year run earlier this year, and the newest DC series, "Superman & Lois" debuts in February.

Michigan football losing to Rutgers. How it got this bad for the Wolverines

Just when you thought it couldn't get worse for Michigan football, the Wolverines are down 17-7 to the Rutgers Scarlet Knights with 30 minutes left to play.
And it still can get worse. The Wolverines could lose this game, pushing Jim Harbaugh's hot seat to a blazing temperature and the Maize and Blue to 1-4. That result would be Rutgers' second conference win in its last 26 tries (you may remember the Knights' last win, against Michigan State earlier this season).
But there's hope in the form of Cade McNamara who took over at quarterback in the second quarter and immediately threw a touchdown.
[ Michigan football goes back to Cade McNamara - and he throws a touchdown immediately ]
A link has been posted to your Facebook feed.
Joe Milton has struggled. Not just this game or last game, AD: Launch code reader. but in most of the games he's played as Michigan's quarterback. There was a host of errant passes Saturday, including an underthrow to pretty open Ronie Bell in the second quarter.
But when Milton did manage to put it on the money, he didn't receive help from his wideouts. After completing a third-and-5 pass on the Wolverines' first drive, receiver Cornelius Johnson fumbled, giving Rutgers the ball.
That play didn't lead to Knights points, but it seemed to throw off Milton, who after starting 4-for-4, ended the half 5-for-12 for 89 yards with no interceptions or touchdowns.
Then, in the second quarter, Milton put a nice ball on Giles Jackson, running a wheel route, to push the Wovlerines into the red zone. Jackson couldn't come down with the back-shoulder toss and Michigan came away scoreless after missing a field goal from 49 yards. (The Wolverines were 0-for-2 on long field goal tries, with Quinn Nordin missing a 53-yarder just before the half.)
Milton also failed to convert a run on a first-quarter fourth down attempt, after Michigan was gifted a fourth-and-1 because a Rutgers player ran into U-M punter Brad Robbins.
But if there's any reason for hope its McNamara, who was 10-for-12 for 113 yards and a touchdown.
Your guide to Big Ten sports from the writers and columnists who know it best.
[ Michigan football game score vs. Rutgers: Live updates ]
Milton isn't getting any help from his run game or blockers. The Wolverines have a paltry 15 yards on 17 carries, and that's including a 9-yard carry by Roman Wilson. Rutgers is often meeting Michigan's running backs in the backfield.
Milton wasn't helping matters with four carries tallied for minus-16 yards. He was sacked twice.
Through two drives, McNamara has not dealt with quite as much pressure.
The much-maligned Michigan secondary isn't exactly responding well to an avalanche of scrutiny. Rutgers quarterback Noah Vedral has his sights on a career game thanks to a couple of long completions. In six starts over his four years, the senior has topped 250 passing yards just once - last week vs. Illinois.
Vedral is on pace for 300 yards through the air after finishing the half 14-for-21 for 162 yards. He also leads Rutgers with 20 yards.
If Michigan can stamp out Vedral's success, a second half comeback becomes much more likely.

Toyota GR Yaris Dyno Run Shows High Horsepower For The Hot Hatch

This video is tough for the Motor1.com crew to watch. There's nothing bad about it, other than the delectable GR Yaris hot hatch won't be coming to US shores anytime soon. It's one of just a few cars our entire staff fawns over, and after seeing this video, we're even more desperate to get our hands on this rally racer.
The clip comes from NM2255 Car HD Videos on YouTube, and the location is Biesse Racing in Italy where the amped-up Yaris is offered. The tuning company got its hands on a new model and strapped it to a four-wheel chassis dyno for some baseline runs. The video claims this Yaris is completely stock, and judging by the surprising lack of engine sound as it runs through the rev range, we totally believe it.
We want to totally believe the numbers it posted, too. We're used to seeing chassis dyno readouts listed in horsepower at the wheels, but this one appears to be configured for conversions to horsepower at the crankshaft. And what do we see? The little 1.6-liter turbocharged three-pot belts out a maximum of 278.1 metric horsepower. That's approximately 274 hp in SAE-speak or, AD: diagnostic scanner. 202 kilowatts for everyone else. No matter how you measure it, that's a very healthy increase from Toyota's stock rating of 257 hp.
Of course, we've traveled this dyno-readout road before. Yes, it's possible some data was entered incorrectly. It's also possible some tweaks were done to the car before going onto the dyno. On the other hand, we recently reported on the GR Yaris hitting 60 mph in 5.3 seconds, so the rally-themed hatchback isn't lacking for power by any means. Sending that power to all four wheels certainly doesn't hurt, either.
Early this year, Toyota teased a hot hatchback entrance for North America. Company representatives said the Yaris wasn't it, but rumors of a GR'd Corolla for the States soon followed. Sadly, by then coronavirus was sweeping the globe, and we haven't heard anything since.
For now, at least, we'll just have to weep silently while the rest of the world revels in the thrill of this three-cylinder pocket rocket.

Ecommerce training firm claps back at YouTuber exposing ‘marketing guru’ campaigns

An ecommerce training company has responded to a local YouTuber's allegations of its deceiving wealth programs in an exposé video after taking legal action against him.
LeapVista said yesterday that they will not stand down against haters and will continue to take the necessary legal actions against local YouTuber Rishi Kumar, who has been issued a cease and desist letter earlier this month after debunking its business programs in a video.
"Over the past few weeks we noticed that there was an effort by an individual to tarnish our image and hurt our reputation. We are not going to let online bullies destroy the reputation of our community. We will pursue all due legal processes in our country to protect what we have built," the firm said in a statement yesterday.
We will stand up to online bullies and abusers.
We are a group of entrepreneurs in our mid-twenties to mid-thirties. For almost all of our working years, we have worked hard and built various businesses from scratch.
LeapVista is a business we built over the past year to plug a gap in the market - the need for better training for people interested in the e-commerce industry.
We are proud of our achievements, especially the community of successful e-commerce entrepreneurs we have built.
Over the past few weeks we noticed that there was an effort by an individual to tarnish our image and hurt our reputation. This individual was never a participant of our seminars or courses. His allegations were purely based on hearsay. He never got in touch with us regarding any of the claims to verify and get our point of view before he made his videos. After our law firm sent him a Cease and Desist letter, he went on to falsely claim on social media he was being sued by us. Using this false pretext he has raised over $20,000 from the public.
We are not going to let online bullies destroy the reputation of our community. We will pursue all due legal processes in our country to protect what we have built. The burden of proof is on this individual, we look forward to our day in court where he will have to back up his allegations with evidence.
We know we are far from perfect, there are hundreds of areas in which we can do a better job. Perhaps our seminars can be better, maybe we shouldn't have had so many repetitive advertising videos featuring Benjamin. All fair criticisms. Where we draw a red line is when it comes to attacks on our integrity and our reputation. We will defend it to our last dollar.
If anyone is interested to know more, make a video, write a story, please get in touch . If you have already made a video, written a story before listening to what we had to say, we would like to request you to kindly amend or take it down so that your readers are not misinformed by one sided false allegations.
The internet is a wonderful place and has provided many with an opportunity to make a living. We are one of them and we intend to keep getting better at it. It is sad to see some use the same medium to make a living by abusing and bullying others. The only way to fight bullies is to stand up to them. This is certainly what we intend to do.
Team LeapVista
The firm said that the YouTuber's allegations were based on unverified information and that he never got in touch with them to clarify before going on to claim in a video posted last month that the trainers "twist and turn the words" to recruit people in the seminars and its training material can be easily found online.
"His allegations were purely based on hearsay. He never got in touch with us regarding any of the claims to verify and get our point of view before he made his videos," the firm said.
The firm also told Coconuts today that they have not received any evidence of the allegations made. Kumar has not responded to Coconuts queries as of publication time.
In the 11-minute video that has over 300,000 views, Kumar nitpicks LeapVista's online advertisements that featured chief trainer Benjamin Tan, who gave tips on how viewers can secure millions of dollars from setting up Amazon businesses in Singapore. The advertisements were seen playing before the start of man...

'Miracle on Christmas' movie shot in Michigan released on Amazon Prime

"Livingston County, it was a beautiful backdrop," filmmaker Thomas Bonifield said.
Bonifield wrote and directed a Christmas movie released Tuesday that was filmed in the Brighton area earlier this year.
The film, "Miracle on Christmas, See: Topdon Car Battery Tester. " follows protagonist Mary Boyce, played by faith-based film actress Erin Bethea, and her family on Christmas Day, as she navigates personal trials and grief over the death of her father and has her faith in God tested.
A mysterious stranger comes into the family's life to help her find her way.

The film is available for purchase on DVD or you can rent or buy a digital version on streaming platform Amazon Prime Video.
"The protagonist is wavering in her faith because of a crisis in her family, dealing with medical issues," Bonifield said.
Bonifield, 53, worked in journalism for about 20 years. He is the founding editor of Christian Film Blog, a website covering Christian film news. He was previously CEO of Ihlas News Agency in Istanbul and worked for NBC as a bureau chief in Moscow and deputy foreign news editor.
He said while he has written eight screenplays, "Miracle on Christmas" is his first to be made into a movie.
Bonifield said he is a faithful Christian who attends a non-denominational church in his hometown of Phoenix, Arizona. He said he wanted to make a faith-based movie that would inspire viewers.
"I had two main goals. I wanted to tell a faith-based Christmas story, but I also wanted it to be something accessible to a general audience," he said.
He said he threw in a bit of humor, but the film also tackles serious themes, like "love and fidelity, marriage, and support of family through thick and thin."
The entire film was shot in Livingston County.
"Most of it was at a house in a neighborhood in the Crooked Lakes," just northwest of Brighton in Genoa Township, Bonifield said.
He shot three scenes at the Cornerstone Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Brighton Township.
He said one of the scenes is a church scene on Christmas day that features at least 150 extras from the county and other Michigan communities.
Bonifield's film crew also made the church's office look like a doctor's office for another scene.
The film also features a scene of a pick-up football game. It was shot on the church's soccer field.
"I was stunned at the level of talent in your state when it comes to movie making, virtually all the crew Michigan and half the cast are local to Michigan," Bonifield said.
Gabrielle Ahlborn traveled about an hour from Lake Orion with her best friend, Jack Mantint, 17, to participate in the shoot as an extra in the Christmas Day church scene.
"Mostly they had us sit in pews and sing along to some Christmas songs, and then get up and leave at the end of it," she told Livingston Daily in March.

Producer Danny Roth lives in Howell. Bonifield said he decided to shoot the film in Livingston County because he knew Roth was finishing up a Christmas movie filmed in Brighton and Whitmore Lake.
He also said he wanted to shoot in a place that had real snow.
Roth produced a Lifetime channel TV Christmas movie starring singer and actress Ashanti, "A Christmas Winter Song." That movie premiered on the Lifetime channel in December following an advanced screening at the Brighton Center for the Performing Arts on the Brighton High School campus.
Another producer, Kevan Otto, has directed and produced multiple Christian movies, according to his IMDb page.

Bonifield said Michigan's unpredictable weather posed challenges.

The 807-HP V8 Hellcat Redeye Crate Engine Is Here for Your Swapping Pleasure

Mopar is no stranger to pumping out powerful, swap-worthy crate engines. By now, you probably already know about the 392 Hemi as well as the 707-horsepower Hellcat V8. Well, on Friday, the family grew by one as Fiat-Chrysler announced an all-new entry to the lineup-a "Hellcrate" Redeye-slotted directly below its almighty Hellephant.
As the name suggests, this engine is a take on the standard supercharged 6.2-liter Hellcat V8, only this time the engineers at Mopar turned the volume up to 11. The Redeye designation should also sound familiar, as it's the same appointment that Dodge gave to the 797-hp Challenger and Charger Hellcat Redeye models.
Through the magic of forced induction, Dodge managed to squeeze some extra power out of the new Hellcrate Redeye by slapping on a larger supercharger and cranking up the boost from 11.6 psi to 14.5 psi. The result is a healthy increase to 807 horsepower and 717 pound-feet of torque.
FCA's Head of Passenger Cars Tim Kuniskis mentioned owners of "pre-1976" vehicles specifically in a press release, but really, See: Autel Diagnostic Tool. the swap possibilities are endless. After all, we've seen a Hellcat in a Miata before.
The attraction to American muscle is hard to turn down for old-school horsepower fans, especially when an automaker like Dodge offers such a neatly packed modern platform to build from. It's what's made the standard Hellcrate engines so popular with builders and performance shops across the country.
Dodge also recognizes that its customers who purchase its crate engines often place them in front of manual transmissions. As such, they provide part numbers up front for the engine's accompanying flywheel, clutch assembly and necessary installation hardware. The company also makes a list of other factory accessories and replacement parts so servicing the engine in the future shouldn't be a worry.
The all-new Hellcrate Redeye engine is available to order today for $21,807-about a fourth of the cost of a brand new Charger Hellcat Redeye. Given the extra 100 horsepower gain over the standard Hellcrate, it seems like a no-brainer for just $1,600 more. If you're looking for even more power, though, the next stop is the 1,000-horsepower Hellephant priced at $29,995.

Here Are 12 Of The Wildest Porsche Concepts You've Never Seen Until Now

A new 328-page book titled Porsche Unseen gives us a deep dive into 15 of Porsche Design Studio's little-known concepts created between 2005 and 2019. With these studies mostly kept hidden in the minds of their creators, the company's hard drives, and the secret warehouses of the Porsche Museum until the book's release, it includes chapters on "Spin-Offs," "Little Rebels," "Hyper Cars," and "What's Next?" It's a detailed look into what else could have come out of Porsche HQ in the last 15 years.
Here are 12 that I could find. Some of the following concepts only exist in the digital space, while others were developed into full-size clays; the 911 Safari concept was pushed all the way to the working prototype stage. Take a peek and let us know which ones do you miss the most from your local Porsche dealership.
Ladies and gentlemen, that is a flat-eight Porsche engine. Based on the Cayman platform and built into a full-size clay model after 2015's Boxster Bergspyder concept, You may also like: autel maxitpms. the Porsche Le Mans Living Legend is a nod to the 550 Coupe Porsche sent to the 1953 24 Hours of Le Mans. While looking like a car Ruf would produce, the most important detail remains that this beefed-up nightmare of even the fastest Alpine A110 is powered by a horizontally opposed, eight-cylinder engine probably tuned to Ferrari and McLaren V8 levels.
What happens when Porsche gets its hands on Volkswagen's tandem-seater carbon fiber monocoque developed for the revolutionary diesel hypermiler XL1? Apparently, its designers will jam a Ducati V2 bike engine under a new carbon body (not unlike Volkswagen with its 2014 XL Sport concept), fitting it with 911 Turbo wheels to get the desired proportions of a classic 904 GTS. An exercise in lightweight engineering.
A road-legal evolution of the 918 Spyder that could make a certain 918 Spyder owner called Horacio Pagani wonder about his very own track-focused hypercars.
Going all Toyota GR Super Sport Hybrid on us, Porsche took its Le Mans-winning, multiple track-record-demolishing 919 platform to create a 1:1 clay model of a road-going version of this electrified beast. Featuring the same dimensions and wheelbase as the race car, this could have been Porsche's 900-horsepower hybrid LMP1 prototype for the road.
Remember the 918 RSR hybrid race car concept Porsche unveiled at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show? It used a flywheel accumulator KERS system. Eight years later, Porsche Design Studio penned the 920, a proposed hypercar for the road, track special, or candidate for a customer racing series.
Neat, yet with Rimac in house and Porsche focusing on rapid electrification, I wouldn't be surprised if the 918's successor went fully electric.
The sports car I really wish Porsche could push further right now than a 1:1 painted clay model. Recalling the lines of the 550-1500 RS Spyder from 1954 with its radiator grille and raw interior, Porsche's Spyder study explores ideas like the featured futuristic roll bar, which is presumably made of composites. Add the experimental flat-eight of the 2016's Le Mans Living Legend, or even the flat-six of the Cayman GT4, and we're in business.
Staying in the render zone, behold the design intern project that led to a race car concept powered by four wheel-hub electric motors. Porsche calls it a tribute to the first all-wheel-drive electric race car known as the Lohner-Porsche, developed by Ferdinand Porsche some 120 years ago. This 916 may not be as exciting as the RS6 GTO racing wagon Audi's design students cooked up recently, yet wheel-hub motors are worth exploring.
We all wish for a modern 906 successor to resurface, and 15 years ago, Porsche dressed its rendering in the colors of the 906 that won the 1966 Targa Florio-but that's where it remained.
What you see here in all its Martini Racing glory is a fully working 991.1 GT3 with even wider arches, 19-inch wheels, and a unique bottom half for the sake of joyful rallying. Porsche has been teasing us with production 911 Safari for ages, and so it's no wonder thpanies are already busy coming up with products to fill that void.
Oh Lord, won't you buy me a two-door Macan? Everyth...

Porsche Design Trolls Hypebeasts Everywhere By Only Giving Them 2.7 Seconds to Preorder Shoes

Porsche and sneaker fans have one important thing in common: They both love to get stuff you can't have. Think about it: Both are willing to jump through ridiculous hoops and wait for what they want. The resale markets for limited-edition drops are ridiculous. Oh, and whenever someone makes more of something, as the GT3 Touring essentially did to the 911R, that original thing drops in value-but at least you got to say you had it first, right?
This single-circle Venn diagram of hype is about to be played in the funniest way, courtesy of a Porsche Design collaboration with Puma. The Porsche Design x Puma Icons of Fast collection includes eight different Speedcat and Future Rider shoes with colorways inspired by different generations of the Porsche 911 Turbo.
Each shoe corresponds to one of the eight generations of the 911 Turbo, with Future Rider shoes for the four aircooleds (930 3.0L, 930 3.3L, 964 and 993) and Speedcats for the four watercooleds (996, 997, You may need: Launch Diagnostic Tool. 991 and 992). You can see the full collection here, but I have to admit that the 964's Turbo Mint Green might be the raddest one. Also, I miss my long-dead Speedcats, and no no no, I should not be buying expensive Porsche-branded shoes right now. (The silver 996 ones, though? Those.)
It's also the one true kryptonite to Porsche/hypebeast (...parshbeast?) bank accounts: a limited release. Preorders come with a limited-edition poster inspired by the collection. According to Carscoops, each pair sells for $150.
The catch? The "buy it now" button only appears for the length of time it takes a new 911 Turbo: 2.7 seconds. Hahahahahahaha. Hahahahahaha. Haha. HA. I know some especially hype-bait items sell out almost immediately, but they also don't automatically shut off the button in 2.7 seconds.
There's a countdown clock running on the collection's website, and when it reaches zero, that's it. You have 2.7 seconds to preorder. Go!
Fortunately for those of us who don't need to have something first, this is just the preorder round. If you like these and would rather buy them without watching a countdown clock, just ride it out.

Hong Kong star Gallen Lo denies he has cancer

Hong Kong star Gallen Lo is rumoured to be suffering from cancer after he was spotted at a cancer centre in Hong Kong on November 10. Media outlet Hong Kong East Net reported that the 57-year-old lost weight and was wearing a cap, sunglasses and mask as though he did not want to be recognised.
According to insiders, Lo has been going to the medical centre in Shau Kei Wan for treatment for a couple of days and he usually sets his appointments in the morning where there are less people.
It was also reported that Gallen seemed familiar with the staff and was often seen chatting. After three hours, he left the centre and headed to a nearby eatery with his driver for a meal. Gallen appeared not to have much of an appetite and stopped eating after a few bites. When he took off his jacket, it looked like he seems thinner.
Lo was asked by Hong Kong media about the rumours and he told them that he was at the cancer centre to visit a friend. He took his COVID-19 swab test and saw a doctor while he was at the centre.
When asked if he's suffering from cancer, he denied it, saying: "No such thing. Don't worry, AD: Autel TPMS sensor. I‘m fine."
The actor reassured everyone that he is "very well" and that he goes for health checks regularly.
He added that he was back in Hong Kong to visit his son from his first marriage, 21-year-old Alex, and to deal with some matters.
Alex had left for Canada while Lo is serving his 14-day quarantine in Shenzhen before heading to Yangzhou for a shoot in a couple of days. Rumours of Lo having cancer is nothing new. He was rumoured to have had liver cancer before. After he left in 2002 to pursue his career in China, Chinese press reported that he had liver cancer. However, it was untrue.
Gallen Lo is married to Chinese actress Sophie Su and is now based in China. Earlier this year, he jumped on the live stream bandwagon but response has been underwhelming.
