Police responded to a call about a single-vehicle car crash on Stanton Avenue at about 12:21 a.m. There, they found the driver, 51-year-old Keith Ray of Franklinville, unconscious and unresponsive. He had been ejected from his vehicle. Witnesses told police a green Hyundai had sped down the street before it ran off the road and hit a tree. The force of the crash was enough to split the car in half. "I saw the back half of a car on my driveway and the front half on my neighbor's lawn with a body in front of it," said Janice Washington.
